Anybody else find it ironic that we have city council members making decisions on what's legal and illegal while they personally are living in a potentially illegal long term rental? I was under the impression that a R1 zoned lot couldn't have three families on it. Owner and two separate long term rentals? Is that correct? Can you clarify Ralph? Lynn road is zoned R1 correct?
Part of Trudeau's upcoming budget, he announced in Edmonton yesterday, features new regulations aimed at landlords. This will make being a landlord more difficult, more expensive. As a result there will be less private sector investment in residential rental construction, resulting in fewer homes being available.
Very short term thinking by the Liberal government. Tenants and potential tenants outnumber landlords, probably by a ratio of about 50 to 1. So if this strategy charms a few extra dozen voters for the Liberals, it's worth it to them. They're scrambling for every vote they can muster. But it also eliminates maybe 50 new rental units that will not get built.
Introducing new legislation which discourages the construction of and investment in new rental housing is simply stupid, another slippery, conniving piece of work by the Liberal government. The NDP will support this. At a time when one of the biggest woes in the country is the lack of available housing. And 500,000 more are packing their suitcases and making their reservations, on their way here.

Maybe their staff would like a job in Tofino. They are obviously more attune to the Community.
