Interesting take on an AirBnB situation... not sure of all the facts or anything but what i liked was that people who actually live in a community can make money. The sad part is how big business, resorts, hotels and councils shut the community out from where they live.
I want as the census says 1900 people living here in Tofino to profit from the tourism as much as they can or want. The District of Tofino wants to control it, limit it and take away from this..... who benefits; large resorts, hotels etc...
10:49 you miss the one factor that makes the vacation rental scenario less than totally desirable. That is when you have everyone being greedy at the expense of the community in which they live, then you have no community left to live in. The community gets gutted of any sense of belonging with no community involvement. Gradually the services the town depends on disappear. The businesses lose staff, the full time resident numbers drop so a hospital gets turned into a clinic, the coop closes several days a week and the list goes on.

Neighborhoods should have neighbors not customers. Customers should be in commercial zones.
