Happy New Year from the blog !

Happy New Year !!
It was a year that began with widespread hope for the new Mayor and Council and ended in a debacle called "restructuring".......feel free to comment with your assessment of the year......

on the ballot for a new mayor why dont we have a simple yes/no question: do you think the hourglass model of governance encourages dishonesty?

One by one, we are getting rid of members of the Fuctus Club.

so what does happen to money from a budget for, say, parks and rec which doesnt get spent in a budget year?
or if it does get spent who looks to see that it was all spent as allocated?
who knows this? the hourglass?
the hourglass isnt going to say anything.

Some councillors started out okay but eventually they all drank the Cool-Aid.How could they all have turned on Sally ?? How could these intelligent, logical people all be brainwashed ?

Year of the whining residents. My resolution, try to do something about the issues in our community rather than stand on the sidelines an throw slander from a cloak of secrecy.

Happy New Year to everyone, I really hope that the current council will step down this year or at the next election.... They don't serve the people, they only serve to control them.

Lets open up, lets be better and do better

8:45 I assume that you are referring to in-camera meetings when you refer to a "cloak of secrecy"

8:45 you are referring to the hourglass? as the cloak of secrecy?

year of the arrogant politician

Just because I voice opposition to the common ground of this blog does not mean I am on council. Grow up and run for mayor or council if you feel you can do a better job.

There is equally as must distane for this blog in the coop line up as there is for council that is voiced here.

so...8:45...how about you do something about the hourglass and maybe the secret corporate re-structuring that nobody thinks is right.

hey we elected people who were generally kind honest decent upstanding sympathetic people before they were elected.
seems like once elected everyone one becomes a politician, a strange identity that exists beyond the real person we elected based upon their inherent decency etc.
what is this? what purpose is served by not communicating with the constituents?
and who made it this way?
did anyone who ran for public office know that their basic human qualities would be suspended?
for cryin out cornflakes this isnt the idea behind public office. maybe 1 year terms instead of 3. cheesh

Give council a break. They find themselves caught up in a system of accountability that has been designed, not by them, but by the rules set up by the provincial government.
If all the complainers on this blog ran and got elected, they'd find themselves in the same situation and be unable to do things any differently.

What you are saying is for the most part true. People may enter the race with the best intentions, but there are rules in place as what the provincial government will allow and not allow. Not so easy to be a councillor.

I think it's fine to critique the decisions councillors may make, but to to be too quick and say, "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD" is not always a good thing. There are usually more sides to the story.

Many anonymous posters who call for other people to be fired want anyone else to step up to the plate except themselves.

Rather than fire our current councillors, let us see how we can move forward with them. It's a new year. I'm sure they want to do their best.

Once we get rid of this shitty hourglass system (East German Stazi inspired and recently picked up by our CAO), perhaps with more open lines of communication we can get our town back on track.

heres my 2 scents worth.
its about time someone in the public office
examined the finances of this community in great
detail.
does anyone see and understand where and why monies are spent?
we have a treasurer of course who keeps the tallies which do not include any explanations or rationale for expense.
this isnt an aspersion. someone needs to understand and be able to explain to people where DCCs are kept and when will they be allocated. interest bearing?
if the DOT receives a condo as a housing amenity will there be a logbook system to detail expenses for the unit? etc etc questions about where money is spent need to be formulated and answered responsibly by either mayor or council members. not the CAO hourglass.
