I do. And I know a lot of people that care too. That care despite it being midsummer in a town completely over the top in exploitation of the few natural resources and overtourism, and still feel passionate about this place and our world.
Yes Josie we have tourists and tourism all doing exactly what all tourists do: consume everything in their path without consideration or Conscience.... Mindless consumption. Not exactly the environmentalists dream come true. In fact, if the environmentalists and the eco- Warriors thought about it for a minute they might discover that mindless tourism is an environmental nightmare. All the data in the world isn't going to fix this. Once the gates of toursism were swung wide open in the name of money there was no more thought of structuring a tourist economy that didn't behave like a herd of hungry feral hogs..... The people making the money behave the same way with complete disregard for what the community of tofino stands for... At some point the OCP was considered the voice of the community but instead of doing a review and updating the community's views on tourism in particular.. The OCP seems to have gotten tossed under the bus. Despite previous councils resistance to the lure of RMI money and the pressure of the Ministry of tourism, the money prevailed. And now the eco Warriors and the environmentalists are getting rich with their vacation rentals, tourist businesses, and or bogus operations all at the expense of the community.... What was once a community has become tourism tofino.
Tourism can be a plague yes but the story has nothing to do with the so called global warming story being consciously pushed by the media. The media is filled with non scientists who do not think or question the reality. We even have govt agencies in the US, the center of this warming scam using data that they KNOW is inaccurate to push their agendas which generate research funding.
The real question is how we stop the tourism abuse of the town. Twice on Friday I saw people wandering around with flowers they'd obviously picked from the area.
