NWS WEST COAST/ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER PALMER AK

...A STRONG EARTHQUAKE HAS OCCURRED BUT A TSUNAMI IS NOT
EXPECTED ALONG THE CALIFORNIA/ OREGON/ WASHINGTON/
BRITISH COLUMBIA OR ALASKA COASTS...
NO WARNING... NO WATCH AND NO ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR
THESE AREAS.
A MAJOR AFTERSHOCK FROM THE EARLIER MAGNITUDE 8.7 EARTHQUAKE
HAS OCCURRED. THE PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER WATCH
FOR THE INDIAN OCEAN IS STILL IN EFFECT. NO ALERT IS IN
EFFECT FOR THE STATES AND PROVINCES LISTED ABOVE.
BASED ON LOCATION OF THE EVENT BEING OUTSIDE THE PACIFIC BASIN
THE EARTHQUAKE WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO GENERATE A TSUNAMI DAMAGING
TO CALIFORNIA/ OREGON/ WASHINGTON/ BRITISH COLUMBIA OR ALASKA.
RESIDENTS IN THE INDIAN OCEAN REGION SHOULD REFER TO THE PACIFIC
TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER MESSAGE.
AT 343 AM PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME ON APRIL 11 AN EARTHQUAKE WITH
PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE 8.2 OCCURRED
OFF THE WEST COAST OF NORTHERN SUMATERA INDONESIA.
PACIFIC AND INDIAN OCEAN COASTAL REGIONS OUTSIDE CALIFORNIA/ OREGON/
WASHINGTON/ BRITISH COLUMBIA AND ALASKA SHOULD REFER TO THE PACIFIC
TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER MESSAGES FOR INFORMATION ON THIS EVENT AT
PTWC.WEATHER.GOV.
THIS WILL BE THE ONLY STATEMENT ISSUED FOR THIS EVENT BY THE
WEST COAST/ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER UNLESS ADDITIONAL
