OMG!!! The District of Tofino is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Legislative Services Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager of Legislative Services, the Legislative Services Coordinator provides policy recommendations, data analysis, and administrative support to the organization. The position provides specialized research, administrative, and organizational support services of a complex nature to advance the strategic objectives of Council and the organization, with a high level of accuracy under minimal supervision
We are a village of 2000. We are being run like the Federal Gov’t , Department of redundancy department.
When we were a town of 1000 we had less than a quarter of the current staff, and we seemed to function just fine. The Councillors brought their concerns to Council meetings, the public provided input, and decisions were made.
This bureaucracy is way out of hand. If we need to act like a town of 20,000 people because we have a couple of million tourists coming each year…….let the tourists pay. This has got to stop.
The town is impossibly expensive already…….Like we need more experts. We need more common sense……..Axe the tax….bludgeon the budget. Let the people live.
I am confused! “Legislative” refers to the power to make laws. Somehow we have been saddled with a Manager of Legislative Services, and now we have a position for a Coordinator of the same. What exactly are Legislative Services in regards to the District of Tofino? The making laws department? What on earth is the intent of such a position?! The only laws that we have are by-laws. This is something that comes from Council, who are elected, not hired. We are hiring people to make laws and strategies/strategize for the District!? This is terrifying! Bad enough what is happening provincially. What on earth could they do for a small town of a little more than 2000. The only thing that comes from such a position is someone who has to fabricate strategies to justify their full-time position. Why even have a council? I’m scared to look. What is the salary of this person? What is the salary of the manager? You know too where this will go. They will need support staff, secretaries and so on…. Maybe even a vehicle or two. Not to mention office space. Council, you cannot possibly justify such a department. Where did this whole thing come from? Was it a suggestion of council or from staff? Can we please have some common sense and stop this madness.

My head is screwed on straight and I find this job description ludicrous as far as describing something that really needs to be done. A great example of bureaucracy… When the process doesn't achieve any tangible results.
So the corruption in the DOT office isn't a real thing? It's not a rat's nest of friends of friends all living off the public teat, circling the wagons at every threat to their taxpayer funded easy lifestyle, watching each other's backs, justifying and rewarding themselves ahead of the public? Operating in secret, behind closed doors? Using spin and deception to obscure the reality of the situation? ....... that's all just some right wing conspiracy theory, right?
