Water System / Weather Models

A few models that show what could be in store for Tofino this summer . Two are USA but we are pretty close to Washington state . There has been no changes so far to our water system since 2023. Your thoughts ?

It is just normal weather variations.
Paying a carbon tax will not bring us rain or change the weather or climate.

If we don't get enough rain in May/June we are in trouble. Last year it was minimal during that time. I'm wondering how long it will take council to act on the big study that was just completed, we need more storage for the current town's needs let alone building anything else. Yes it might be expensive, but what is the alternative? We just wait and hope?

The recent water study states that our on land storage is currently more than sufficient 2.5 times what we currently need. The problem is with the Raw Water Supply. (Meares Island)
The Water Study provided a priority list of what can be done to improved this. # 1 was to expand the Akmahksis reservoir. Others like Boulson creek, Kenndedy lake etc followed.

Instead on Council approving funding to immediately look at the expansion of the reservoir they instead decided to implement, a “restrict development policy”, increase monitoring of water flows and develop stricter water conversation measures!

They also approved to hire the same consultants at 100K to research the best options to increase our raw water supply when they already provided the best options in the current water study. (pg 44)

Public works aka Aaron Rodgers said any expansion would take 5-10 years!! What!?

Talk about kicking the proverbial can down the road!

Pretty cool that the district is going to print out helpful hints to save water. Last year's suggestion to put Porta potty's in your front yard and ask guests to bring their own sheets and towels was killer. Once the media gets a hold of those priceless publications, don't you think that people will think twice about coming here? I would… I love the sound of Porta potty doors slamming incessantly. Can't wait. Get an early start on that and start handing them out right away and no tourism is an option. Isn't that genius? I met a very wealthy man the year that the last water crisis hit who is staying at the Wickaninnish Inn but when I saw him he said he would never come back here cause he couldn't take a shower. Haven't seen him since... Cleanliness is overrated anyway.

The issue that seems to have been swept under the carpet since last summer is the fact that the underwater pipe from meares island to here is plastic and 40 years old. Last summer it broke in three places. It would seem that could happen again. plans to put another pipe across to meares island makes more sense than ignoring it… Until it breaks again. than what?
