What are the resorts complaining about? They already have tax rates of about half what Ucluelet charges and on top of that had their tax assessments lowered.
So residential assessments are soaring. Commercial assessments are going down? So the residents pay more to keep the services in place for a million tourists. What is wrong with this picture?
Just raise the levels of taxation against assessment for commercial properties. At least to the levels of Whistler, which is 40% higher than Tofino. C'mon Bob you must be familiar with that.
Obviously you cannot rely on the Resort Owners as constructive partners. We are going back in time. It is deja vue all over again. It is worse than the logging days. Big company gets taxation holiday. Meanwhile, workers in Tough are making minimal wages, living in worse than logging camp realities. We are the meat in the tourist economy's sandwich.
Now that Catalyst projects are approved, why do we need a consultant at $100,000 a year on the books. Tofino housing is worse than a boat. You know, "A hole into which you pour money" Maybe someone down there at city hall could think about saving some money, I have just about run out.
The NGO industry is alive and well in Tofino funded by the DOT Staff. Council had better not interfere. check the background of the last 20 hires...interesting correlations.
