Please listen to this podcast. from this council Affordable housing or below market housing or any other talking point is only a talking point. it's government of the absurd.
In terms of talking points, "ecosystems, ecology, habitat protection, environmental concerns, public consultation, transparency, et cetera Etc. etc. et cetera " Clearly demonstrates their emptiness given the current below market housing solution next to Mackenzie Creek situated smack dab in the middle of a Busy wildlife corridor.
Our autocratic leader/mayor simply changes a few words and Voila! There's nothing to be concerned about.
It's as easy as being confused about what student means & what is a dormitory.

Bravo 10:02 there is an old saying "the first victim of war is the truth" If language is so debased that words begin to mean nothing, they can mean anything at all, and we are in serious trouble of being manipulated.

I find it quite insulting to listen to our elected representatives manipulate the facts and promote their own personal agenda by putting their own personal "spin" on matters that the public should be getting straightforward unbiased information on. Do we actually look that stupid, that it's thought we won't see through the misrepresentation and deceptive language?

It's taken a while to happen, but folks are beginning to see the "wolf in sheep's clothing" that we were warned about, by a comment on this blog, 8-9 years ago.

She seems to think that she's above the law.

She likes to take her dog, unleashed, running at large on the beach. When it's pointed out that there is a by-law that prohibits this, her reply is "Well, I'm glad you bought that up, that's certainly something we could have a conversation about"---How about you just obey the law?

On the radio, when asked about what action could be taken about the public drinking and drunkenness around the bank, again her reply was "I'm glad you bought that up, that's certainly something we could have a conversation about"---- How about just enforce the law?

The issue surrounding the business activities on the property that she an owner of..... Well, that's so blatant that it's disgusting. "I'll just leave the room on that one. That's a conversation that I don't want to have"----How about, if you're going to operate a business, you re-zone to commercial, get a business licence, and pay your taxes same as everyone else?

Next time I get hauled over for speeding, I'll tell the cop "Thanks for pulling me over, lets have a conversation about this "speed limit" idea of yours" or maybe "Sorry, I'm not really clear on what that word "speed" actually means"

Being cute, articulate, popular, and personable doesn't give you the right to ignore the laws that everyone else is required to obey. The age of rule by "divine right" ended a long time ago.

Think the mayor believes her own publicity, often a dangerous sign in a politician https://thetyee.ca/Opinion/2014/11/12/No-Contest-in-Tofino/

A friend shared a letter he received from his friend, who said "-'The solution to every problem involves an increase in the flow of money to government'. There's always an excuse and interpretation that if you just send a little bit more to government, all will be fixed. At almost 72 and paying taxes since 22, I can tell you 'bullshit'. There is nobody living off the public purse anywhere in the world that will tell you anything different than 'we need more money'. There is no-one living off the public purse anywhere in the world that when they get more money, that will respond in any other way than to scream 'It's not enough!'"
How true.

California is ahead of Tofino, but on the exact same evolutionary path; people are starting to leave now in large numbers because they can no longer afford the taxes, the state is some $1.4 trillion in debt and rising just like your taxation graph, and they're only accelerating making the absurd decisions that have led to blackouts and burns. You either get this turned around--or sell out and leave; if the spenders win this one yet too the handwriting is on the wall, there will be only a slight respite before the next one, they never give up.

Josie is getting all her ducks in a row to succeed as the next NDP, MLA in the next provincial election. She has now become a career politician, ready to leave Tofino behind. She will be guaranteed a cabinet position, maybe Affordable Housing Minister!

I hope Josie gets a cabinet position. The sooner the better.

@ 8:22 AM. Unfortunately, it's three years until the next election. A lot of damage is going to be done before then. Tofino's finances will be a wasteland, and the taxpayers of Tofino will be spending the next 25 years paying off the debts run up in the building of this legacy of popular "social infrastructure".
Looking at the record of the current administration here in Tofino, I'd expect she would be more likely to be assigned to the ministry responsible for ICBC and BC Ferries, already proven money losers.
One thing for sure, the only roads out of Tofino's fiscal nightmare all run through the Provincial government, and only upsetting things a bit at the provincial level is going to result in any changes in the division of taxation, that Tofino badly needs. That's unlikely to happen, Tofino's #1 representative is hoping to get a job there.

The mayor sits on the board of Tourism Tofino, representing the interests of Tofino's big money resorts.
The mayor sits on the board of the Tofino Housing Corporation, representing the interests of the affordable housing lobby.
The mayor sits on the board of the ACRD, representing the interests of the residents of the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District.

Who represents the interests of the taxpayers of Tofino?

The mayor does not represent the people of tofino that much is clear by now.
It's also becoming clear what happens behind the scenes between the big money resorts and the affordable housing agenda.
It also appears that Council is a rubber stamp for what's decided by the mayor at these various levels of business.
Just in case you ever wondered where this stuff comes it's now clear. Who cares about the taxpayer?
