And make it retroactive $1000 per day based on the first day the violation started. We could be talking large enough fines that the district could take over the properties when they failed to pay the fines that get attached to their taxes. $30,000 a month adds up pretty quickly. Then we could have some town owned rentals.
Town could sell them off as affordable housing, and make a killing. Putting more money into some rental housing. Wild speculation in any event.
$1000.00 per day should be sufficient deterent that even VR owners will want to hang on to their properties and desist. Or sell them at a potential loss.... as such actions by council will suppress crazy valuations for VR use.
Council needs to step up and show some backbone, this VR-BS has gone on to long. Any councillors expecting to get re-elected better get on board and fast or go down with the ship.
How can this Mayor and council even participate in regulation or enforcement decision making for any accommodation sector in Tofino especially VR"S when 4 our of the 7 are competing against VR's in the accommodation sector? Council by law has to be unbiased. How can councillors be unbiased when they're making decisions that hurt their competion and say "their B&B business is losing bookings to VR's."... Not too mention publicly throwing personal insults at delegations in council chambers...gong show....

The last thing we need is town owned rentals. The town cannot adequately manage the assets it already holds.
