Vote Gordo Johns
Glen Sollitt sounds like an excellent candidate, with a wealth of work experience directly related to understanding our west coast. I feel like we are lucky to have someone of this calibre willing to represent us.
Let me be perfectly clear; my vote for Gordo is not a vote for Gordo. It is a vote against Stephen Harper. I encourage everyone to vote the same.I feel terrible to do this but there is no other way to defeat Harper .
I agree totally with 10:52 AM....... It's about getting rid of Harper and his gang of thugs, that's the most important thing. The Green Party has an excellent, articulate leader, good policies, and a fine field of candidates...... but, first, it's gotta be about defeating the corrupt Conservatives, and the NDP, at this time in history, is best positioned to do so, so they'll get my vote. I also am NOT voting for Gordo, I think he's a terrible choice made by the party, but I'm hoping that he'll have enough sense to win the seat, sit there for four years and keep his mouth shut, do as he's told, not embarass us, and then fade into oblivion like he has in every other enterprise he's been associated with. Perhaps in 2019 the party will realize their error and provide us with a real candidate.
Let's hope that Gordon Johns can do for this riding what he did for the Multi Plex.
A vote for the NDP candidate in our riding is the only power to oust Harper that we have. Let's all get on the same page and do it!
Mulcair is as much of a control freak as Harper. Please bear in mind that Josef Stalin and Pol Pot were both socialists. Be careful what you wish for.
It is interesting to note that NDP are promising a balanced budget while the Liberals are promoting three deficits to invest in infrastructure spending.I'm not sure if anyone believes the Conservative budget spin....
Fight evolution ! Vote Consevative
1:38 PM...... You're obviously a strident Conservative supporter---- An unsubstantiated statement about Mulcair, backed up by an irrelevant reference to unconnected historical figures, followed by a vague threat warning. (you left out use of the word "terrorist") You should apply for a job in the PMO, you'd fit right in.
.....while the Conservatives, on the other hand, simply run a deficit, lie about the real facts, and juggle the country's finances while claiming that they've "balanced the budget". They repeat this lie over and over again, as though this will somehow eventually result in their lie becoming the truth, and when questioned about it, reply with practiced and rehearsed answers that do not address the questions asked. If Harper were on the stand, in a court of law, and tried the crap that he pulls at press conferences, the judge would cite him for contempt for failing to answer the asked questions. Oh wait, his government HAS already been found in comtempt.... of Parliament!! STOP HARPER
THUNDER BAY -- Even though both Thunder Bay MPs were punished for breaking rank with the NDP over abolishing the long gun registry back in 2011, Tom Mulcair says he won't re-introduce the registry if the NDP forms the next government. In November 2011, then-interim-Leader Nycole Turmel whipped NDP MPs to vote against a Conservative bill to scrap the long gun registry. When the NDP whipped the vote, Hyer and Rafferty disobeyed their party on all three of the bill's readings. In response, the NDP removed both MPs from committees and they were not allowed to ask questions during Question Period for five months. Control Freak
The liberals are the only ones promising to legalize pot. Considering what the current laws have done to the youth of this country if only this one thing gets done out of the campaign promises all the parties are making and this one seems likely to be possible as it will save the government money, then it is worth voting liberal. NONE of the other parties is promising anything on the topic. Think before you vote for someone who is not going to have as part of their platform the legalization of pot.As for Liberal deficits for infrastructure spending for a few years, without them, Tofino is unlikely to get the money to pay for the needed sewer upgrades. Another reason to vote the liberals and not elgordo who could not run a successful business. If you split the vote then the Cons could take the riding. If you are older then the same pot law changes could be miraculous if you have a medical condition for which you need to take it. You'd have none of the current crazy restrictions on getting the medicine you needed.
An NDP government would: “Establish an independent commission with a broad mandate, including safety and public health, to consult Canadians on all aspects of the non-medical use of marijuana and to provide guidance to Parliament on the institution of an appropriate regulatory regime to govern such use.”
In remarks on the sidelines of the annual CMA meeting, the NDP leader stopped short of echoing Justin Trudeau's call to legalize marijuana, saying there are still issues that need to be examined before that happens."The NDP for 40 years has believed that it makes no sense at all for a person to have a criminal record for possession or personal use of a small amount of marijuana," Mulcair said when asked why his party isn't backing Trudeau's stance."But what we are also saying is that there are a lot of complex issues, including supply, that have to be looked at in a lot more detailed fashion.... There is still a fair amount of hard work to be done to be able to get to solutions."
If you want pot legalized (or at least, decriminalized), step one would be to get rid of the Harper Conservatives...... and, here in Tofino, you do that by voting NDP. STOP HARPER
Consider this : Mulcair heartily endorsed Mr.Johns. What if all NDP candidates are of the same caliber as him ? Potentially a hundred or more running the country. All of a sudden Justin looks ready .
@4:55 two wrongs do not make a right.Do you realize who you are endorsing ?
The Globe and Mail, one of Canada's most influential newspapers, said in an editorial on Friday that "today we are ruled by an imperial prime minister, unaccountable to anyone or anything".
Yes 6:01 PM, I know exactly what I'm saying....... ANYTHING, even electing Gord Johns, is a pill worth swallowing if it rids this nation of Stephen Harper.
In 2011 the Globe and Mail endorsed Harper for Prime Minister.
OTTAWA — NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is facing criticism from members of his own party for “embracing” capitalism and promising a balanced budget while refusing to tax the “super-rich.”Barry Weisleder, chairman of the NDP socialist caucus, said in an interview Friday that under Mulcair’s leadership, the party has been moving further to the right.“It’s a continuation of the movement towards conservative policies. It remains a party linked to working people and the working-class organizations in the country. But its leadership and the policies of that leadership continue to embrace the capitalist order.”
7:40 PM, I'm happy to hear this. After all, our total economy is dependant upon capitalism, not to mention the capitalist super-power south of our border. We must, of course, embrace much of the capitalist order, the welfare of the people are dependant upon it. It's good to know that NDP leadership is looking at a slow, gradual, moderate transition into power, not a sudden "trash it all" fit of hurried madness. And if I was one of the "super-rich", I'd be expecting a change in my tax bracket, even if it hasn't yet been announced.
Blair declared opposition to the traditional conception of socialism, and declared support for a new conception that he referred to as "social-ism", involving politics that recognised individuals as socially interdependent, and advocated social justice, cohesion, equal worth of each citizen, and equal opportunity. Critics of Blair denounced him for having the Labour Party abandon genuine socialism and accepting capitalism. from wikipedia
