sorry the blog has been so quiet.I have been following the Mike Duffy trial and doing summer stuff. The first signs of the federal election are being displayed by proud NDPers in Tofino. So far I've only seen Gord Johns signs up.WIll have more federal election stuff soon.
Many readers will remember Gord Johns from his time on Tofino council. You can read more about the candidate at his website : http://gordjohns.ndp.ca/

Truly a man of the people. A better candidate could not be found.
Current polls suggest a 78% likelihood of an NDP victory in this riding .

Gordon Johns cites Pierre Trudeau as a personal leader and inspiration in this blog posting. No mention of Jack Layton,Ed Broadbent or Tommy Douglas. In fact,no mention of the NDP or CCF at all.I wonder why he didn't run for the Liberals ?
Truly a man of the people LOL
Gordo is mostly is mostly concerned about himself
If, he gets elected, heaven help us.
He is someone who mislead the public during the sports complex vote as he spoke so favorably about it. Meanwhile he was a PAID lobbyist receiving donated dollars from those supporting the project. No wonder he was speaking in favor of it. He did not identify himself to me as a PAID lobbyist during that campaign. I wonder how many of those who made donations to the sports complex campaign knew their money was going to him?
So you have to ask yourself if you want to send someone with those sorts of scruples to Ottawa.
Oh 2:19am you are so right on. Gordo is mostly con-cerned about himself.
How long has been a member of the NDP? I always thought Gordo was a Green Party member. I hope the switch was not motivated by a perceived chance of personal opportunity.
Does anybody have any info on an alleged misallocation of funds for the embassador training program which was run through the chamber? Is it a coincidence that a resignation happened at the same time?
I contacted the Chamber of Commerce and was told that Mr. Johns left the organization in good standing and of his own accord.
He had a chance to prove himself when he sat on town council, but accomplished absolutely nothing.
Gord's claim to fame during his Chamber of Commerce fiasco was finger pointing at the Oil Industry, but never really accomplished anything for local Commerce.
Gordo ---> Gord-NO !
hahahahaaaa.. Kruger-Dunning effect
Those who can't are falsely emboldened because think they too can, while those who can are falsely discouraged because they believe everyone MUST be able to do what they can!
Net result?
The self-unaware rise up and don't get beaten down while those who can self-censor and stay on the sidelines.
sigh!
Gordo has my vote
10:19am : could you please rephrase your comment ? The word "lie" is problematic. Thanks, Ralph
Gordo's name was not on the list of paid lobbyists in BC.
Search for Gord Johns here:
http://www.lobbyistsregistrar.bc.ca/index.php/public-information
and from there search for his name here.
It is missing.

And people want to send him to Ottawa?
He would probably have been seen as a consultant although I am not sure what contact he had with provincial or federal government.
He kept the fact he was being paid a secret while being vocal in his support for the Multiplex.
I don't see someone acting in that way as full of integrity.
Ottawa does not need more politicians like that being sent there.
Why was he not open with the public about being a paid lobbyist when he was at public meetings and speaking as though he was a member of the public?
You would have to ask the candidate if he met this criteria :
"Consultant lobbyist" means an individual who, for payment, undertakes to lobby on behalf of a client. "In-house lobbyist" means an employee, an officer or a director of an organization who receives a payment for the performance of his or her functions, and whose lobbying or duty to lobby on behalf of the organization or an affiliate, either alone or together with other individuals in the organization amounts to at least 100 hours annually.
Haters gonna hate. Vote NDP
Fascinating discussion.
Elephant in room => Alternative is more Harper govt.
Choose your poison
Who would you rather have as finance minister ? Gordo Johns or Joe Oliver ?
Donald Trump declared bankruptcy many times yet is topping the polls in the US
Well that is a good definition Ralph.
Clearly shows he was a lobbyist.
The campaign was longer than 3 weeks and thus more than the definition of 100 working hours was being spent on the lobbying and for which he was receiving money. He would not have been receiving that donation money if he was not lobbying.
That was from the BC Registrar of Lobbyists.
More:
“Lobbying is defined, narrowly, as communicating for pay with a public office holder in an attempt to influence a limited number of outcomes.”
The basic question is would you trust your Gordo with your wallet or your daughter? I think not!
78% chance of getting elected? I feel sick to my stomach.
I was under the understanding that we had a by-law, or at least an understanding, that nobody in Tofino would pollute our landscape with election signs.
Polluting town with oil based plastic crap is ok, if it lines Gord's own pockets,
Please remove these illegal signs when you come across them.
Gord-NO
Makes me feel sick in the stomach to think my tax dollars could go towards paying him....again. What a waste.
yeah,,we are paying Scott Fraser too!
On one hand, it gets him out of Tofino and makes hime Ottawa's problem and not ours. On the other hand, it's just plain wrong. GordNo
Don't vote for anyone that is a disciple of Braden Smith.
A lot of comments coming in that I cannot publish. While politics is a nasty business ,stories from years ago aren't all that relevant to the current campaign.
I remember Gordo....A blow hard, ready to attach himself to whatever flavour of the month issue that allowed him to display appropriate outrage, couldn't run a small shop in Tofino, Much easier to run the world. The very definition of the "Peter Principle", long ago reached his level of competence.
It's really interesting when you know the candidate as well as we know Gord. The others are just names and faces. They may have flaws as well. But I cannot bring myself to vote for Gord Johns..... I will take my chances elsewhere.....
Actually a candidate's past behaviour is a good indicator of character and what can be expected in the future. While Harper might be hiding in a closet there are skeletons hiding here.
With power being centralized in the Prime Minister's office the vote is really about who we want to lead the country. In this riding it is between Thomas Mulcair and Stephen Harper.
So vote evil or vote stupid and angry ?
I want the Green Party to lead the country. Vote with your heart.
I realize that in this riding if I vote for anyone other that NDP or Conservative, I am throwing away my vote. However, I can not vote for either of these parties. I can not vote for Gord Johns. He has demonstrated his incompetence over and over. I can not imagine the ruin he would bring were he given power. Obviously, I can not vote for the conservatives either. The Greens are not ready. I guess that leaves the Liberals.
Voting for Gord Johns would be akin to The Cons approach to Duffy. Everyone making hay out of this scandalous abuse of public money, and the Conservatives attempts to control the spin, will be guilty of the same thing, in knowingly voting for Gord Johns, when he is such a bad candidate. Some of you think you are righteous and well motivated but can't resisted the common temptations presented to every politician and every party cynically playing politics to secure power. Cons should have cut Duffy loose. I will not vote for Mr. Johbs. Be careful what you wish for. You may end up with what you are trying to avoid.....
