Nanaimo story on Tofino Eco-Weenies and Tofino FOI Sewer Documents......something smells here......

http://www.westerlynews.ca/nanaimo-daily-news-editorial-environmental-hypocrisy-becomes-an-issue-1.806383

Recently acquired documents from a Freedom Of Information request show that not only is the District of Tofino dumping raw sewage from Tofino and Esowista but that they failed to even monitor the sewer system for a large portion of July and August.Provincial law requires that the sewer flow be recorded daily.Again,in an election year our council is strangely silent on this issue.

Why doesn't the Chamber of Commerce or Friends of Clayoquot Sound protest against raw sewage being dumped ? Hypocritical is right !!

How much sewage is coming from Long Beach ?

@James Brown
Our self proclaimed "Community Leader" (executive Director of the Chamber) was a Tofino Council Member himself and didn't bring forward anything memorable to our Community.
So, it's easier to haul at issues hundreds of miles from here as it takes away the attention of his own poor performance.

At least he ran for council.Whether or not you agree with his policies ,he did put in the time.

The "right wing" Nanaimo Daily News Editorial team sounds real credible...remember this?

Also, it's well understood that the District is trying to address the problem, not create or add another one. The Chamber has long advocated to treat raw sewage, so there is no hypocracy. This is a smoke screen (and a weak comparison of different issues at best), but still let's discuss the true impact of raw sewage and oil on our shores. Tofino is not alone with Victoria and others trying to find solutions to human impact on the environment

Tofino began discussing sewer treatment decades ago.You can say that Tofino is working on the problem but they are working at an extremely slow pace.

I was simply acknowledging that he put in the time.I'll acknowledge that most councillors put in the time.That doesn't mean that they are immune to criticism.I hope there are many candidates in this year's election.

Hypocrite, if you are that concerned with the level of criticism that Council members receive here on Tofino News, maybe you should quit this Blog.

wow this is still an issue in tofino.im quit surprised to here this.the jewel of Vancouver island allows raw sewer to be pumped untreated in to the ocean. bravo tofino you all hate fish farms,logging and anything else that disrupts your biosphere but when it comes to sewer its all steam ahead. instead of complaining about it why not get some of those same people that chained themselves to trees to do the same at sewer stations.hey better yet ask the serious questions why is your system flows not being monitored in the busiest time of year,whats to hide. quite being so dam complacent and be responsible for your town. the worst thing that ever happened to tofino was becoming a biosphere. the reason why is because you all love the title but cant keep up with what it takes to be a priemier biosphere. quite the excuses and get with the program.
