I wouldn't have a problem with someone having a beer on the beach.....but how about combining it with a ban on any glass bottles, and giving the ban some teeth, like a $500.00 fine!
Over the past few years my wife has picked up about 50 pounds of glass off of Mackenzie Beach in the hope that children and pets would avoid getting cut. She has also gone to the resorts asking that staff request that their guests do not take glass bottles to the beach. I totally agree with 6:01. Time for the village to step up on this one.
I have picked up much broken glass on Chesterman Beach.....glass bottles thrown into a fire where they shattered into tiny pieces. What kind of idiot does that???
Beer is fine on the beach. Litter is bad. I would like to think that a few responsible adults having a beer on the beach would be fine. A large group of partiers with empties everywhere.....not ok. Like all things, a little discretion with law enforcement goes a long way. BC liquor laws are archaic.
I agree with 9:20 even though I do not drink. I think there is a place for responsible drinking on the beach. Litter is the real problem....dog poo not picked up, empty snack packets stuffed into rock walls or just left on the beach, holes dug in sand and not filled in before leaving, using the beach and nearby properties as toilets, non-burnable items left in fire debris.
I have stepped more than once in a glass chard from a bottle on the beach. Not cool! Walking barefoot on the beach is one of life's pleasures and it is getting less enjoyable when you have to look out for glass (and dog poop). Responsible drinking and not dumping bottles on the beach would be OK with me but unfortunately not too many people are responsible and considerate any more.I have hardly ever seen a bylaw officer on Chesterman Beach during the summer. Who would deal with those who do not know their limit? Who would collect the litter of the beach?
What goes in (alcohol) must come out. I used to suntan on the rocks at south Chesterman Beach. Don't like to do that anymore because it stinks like a public restroom there because so many people disappear in the gap in the rocks to relieve themselves. It stinks!
