Pot Hole Report

Many readers have asked how the District of Tofino can spend months and months discussing how to spend 2 million dollars at the intersection of 4th and Campbell but they can't figure out how to fill a pothole on Main St. ???
Others have asked why the sewer plan never got completed or why nobody bothered to finish painting the firehall. I suppose the answer is that there is no accountability here.....
Some readers have asked why Council has greatly reduced the amount of parking at Chesterman's Beach with offering no alternative ?? Is this part of the "War on Tourism " ? Everyone recognizes that Chesterman's Beach gets congested with parked cars but could the District not spend some of the RMI money to expand the parking at the middle of Chesterman's Beach or at the development behind Solwood ?

Previous councils have attacked vacation rentals this council seems to want to limit the number of beach users. Many of the people pushing to restrict parking have tourist operations in residential neighbourhoods so once again it is self interest at work.

It is a safety issue. If there was a fire or other emergency first responders need to have vehicular access without having to get bareassed surfers to move their volkswagon vans.

Tourism Tofino and the Chamber of Commerce work hard all year to bring people to Tofino. In spite of high ferry rates and better deals across the border they still come to visit our beaches.Let's hope some parking tickets will encourage them to go elsewhere.

Do none of you people travel. I have been to many places in North America where I have not been able to find parking and I was a tourist in a tourist town. Did I ignore signs and park like an ignorant self serving human when no parking was available, no I moved on and came back later or walked from where I finally did find legal parking. Sorry to everyone that thinks filling neighbourhoods with parking lots is the answer. Unfortuneatly we can't have everything we think we are entitled too. We are very fortunate here to literally park where ever we want when ever we want, go try that anywhere else.. I can honestly say I am tired of hearing about chasing tourists away, as September seemed like the busiest month ever. The next time a fellow street parker is pissing on your front lawn wave and say hi and welcome to the neighbourhood.

I hit that pothole. The town might want to patch it before they get a bill to replace a damaged rim.

I'd like to see the ditches cleaned out. Could the town not approach the park warden about contracting the 6410 tractor and mulching the trees growing up. Pulling out from a driveway/sideroad onto the pacific rim hwy is dangerous.

If people had adequate parking and public washrooms they wouldn't be pissing on your lawn. Figure it out. Like it or not we are a tourist town.

To 12:10 filling neighborhoods with vacation rentals is somehow better than providing parking for tourists and locals alike ? Both were using Chesrtermans Beach for recreational purposes before there were any houses there. You must have known that before you moved in .

They should just open the beach to cars then . Lots of parking at no cost to the taxpayer. Easier for police and bylaw to patrol. Works in Washington and Oregon !

What a waste of taxpayers money to put up No Parking signs on Lynn Road. Surfers simply ignore the no parking zone (as was to be expected) and they already knocked two of the signs over. Of course -as usual- there is no enforcement of the new rules and the chaos on the street continues. Nice try - but unfortunately it is not working. There are only two solutions here: either pave over more of paradise to create parking (when will it ever be enough?) or have a shuttle service for surfers to the beach. BTW: There is no excuse for pissing in someone's garden. Just walk to the bathrooms on either end of the beach! It won't kill you!

please fix the pot hole.Worry about the millionaires at Chestermans later !

To 9:19 AM: For your information: Not everyone living at Chesterman Beach is a millionaire! But everyone there is paying extreme property taxes and water rates that help pay for the needs and wants of all residents of Tofino. Without the revenue from the millionaires (& non-millionaires) on the beach Tofino would have a lot less money to spend on bike and skateboard parks etc.! People are paying over $11000 in annual property tax on the beach side. And then their neighbourhood turns into a parking lot and their front yard into a public washroom!
