Sewer Update

District staff have confirmed that the Stage 3 Liquid Waste Management Plan has not been completed   and has not been submitted to the provincial Ministry of Environment for approval. There seems to be lots of work going on with the sewer line from Esowista lately as well. The stage 3 Liquid Waste Management Plan is not rocket science and one has to wonder why it takes years to complete ??

It seems that Tofino Council has not made this a priority and is more concerned with the upgrades to Fourth and Campbell and other RMI projects.

LOL lets make Tofino beautiful like Qualicum Beach or Sidney but pretend we are not pumping raw sewage into Clayoquot Sound where you swim, surf, catch fish and watch whales & marine life. Oh and farm salmon. Keeping pumping the shit into the sound....no one notices yet they will notice the lovely walking space in the centre of town. This issue seems more important to me than spending 2.2 MILLION on one block.

It won't be dealt with until tourists stop coming here because the beaches stink.then it will be too late

On certain days you already can smell it.

Victoria has been pumping raw sewage into the ocean for years and years with little impact on the beaches and sea creatures. While I agree that it is difficult to monitor who puts what down the drain ( paint thinner , oil , chemical residues etc ) fecal matter being sent into a tidal flow like that which surrounds us,does little to negatively impact the environment. The argument for secondary treatment is often based more on philosophical/moral grounds than on actual fact and scientific data. Instead of spending millions ( and millions ) on such a project, improve and extend the pipes out further, educate the citizens ( only that which comes from the human body goes down the drain) and spend the grants on other much needed infrastructure upgrades around our wonderful village.
