An unrelated comment: or 2.... Even though I've signed up to be notified by text message on my phone in the case of emergencies or tsunami warnings, nothing happened yesterday besides hearing off in the distance, the tsunami siren. Others I know also signed up for the text message warning. it didn't happen. And the siren message said listen to your radio. I don't have a radio per se. Radio might have told me that the tsunami alert was for Anchorage Alaska area, which is 2000 miles from here. If tsunamis travel at 500 mph I would have a generous four hours to get my stuff together and go to high ground. A lot of tourists were ridiculously alarmed for no good reason.
Further to tourism the sewage treatment plant is starting to smell up the whole neighbourhood not just where it is. A slight smell was to be expected at the plant but not in the much bigger area. Is there anyone in particular to blame or is this just a long line of city counsellors who have no practical experience and cannot foresee the logical conclusions of various systems once they are put into place. And now what do you do to fix it? Douse the plant with perfume? Perform rituals designed to exorcise devils and evil smells? Call the politicians? call the lawyers? all of the above.
