Glad to see Gord Johns putting west coast and First Nations issues at the top of his agenda.Ahousaht,Hesquiat and Hot Springs Cove will all benefit from this initiative.Cycling in Port Alberni will double with dedicated bike lanes in Cherry Creek, Beaver Creek and River Road. The bike lane to Bamfield will be a Godsend and all paid for with the carbon tax.Job well done !

Gordo should be leading the party in the next general election !

What a joke this twit has proposed.
Typical of someone who had his businesses collapse.
Have someone else pay the bills through their taxes.

Think of the cost to the taxpayers of even proposing something like this when you know full well all it does is self aggrandize the twit and will go nowhere. A waste of parliamentary time at how much per hour?

It was a sad day for us that he got elected.

Carbon taxes he believes in are just a tax scam too.

It used to bring great joy to my heart to see a spandex clad Johns cycling to work at Fibre Options and the on to council meetings on his bicycle . After his business closed , Johns would often be seen cycling to his job at the Chamber of Commerce where his great work did not go unnoticed by the NDP .

Hah!
Johns on a bicycle.
Maybe that is why he missed so many council meetings?
Too busy stretching clothing?

That was mean . Funny but mean.

Politicians have thick skins.
Spandex is useful for keep it all in place.

His great work at the chamber where he had to hire a writer because he couldn't or wouldn't write his own press releases was probably noted by the ndp who recognized him as one of their own. A person who will spend other people's tax (or chamber fees) money without any concerns.

Back to the Ecolodge...
The link below shows the 2005 plan to build it. George Patterson (our mayor's husband) claims it would be used as a student dormitory for education groups. It also has 2 self contained staff units as well (possibly a well thought out condition of the development.

Move forward...
Now the Ecolodge is a nightly rental for tourists and has been for some time. It appears that the staff accommodations have turned into tourist accommodations as well.

Is this property zoned for this? Were they getting tax free status for this as well as the gardens?

Not only does the DOT link above show the plans for the Ecolodge in 2005 it also has the first tax exemption application from the Botanical Gardens (page 37). Interesting to see what is being charged for a room at the Ecolodge now compared to what was suggested in 2005.

I voted for Gord Johns...... well, actually I didn't, I just voted against Stephen Harper and Gord Johns happened to be standing where my vote landed. At this time, I'd like to apologize to the citizens of the riding. I was right, Harper and his bunch needed to go, but on the other hand, I was wrong..... we don't have anything better. Just a different brand of self-serving politician, grandstanding for attention and avoiding the real issues that challenge our society. C'mon Gordo, Bicycles? Don't you have anything else, that actually needs to be looked at, to keep you occupied? (Here's a hint: Child poverty on the reserves)

9:04 you didn't think about what you were wishing for before voting? You knew his many inabilities as demonstrated through his life here and yet you still voted for him?
I accept your apology but please don't do it again.

I propose a tax deduction for spandex riding suits and handle bar "streamers". Suits and streamers required to be made to gov't standards and available in all styles and colours to promote "diversity". Kids where the net family income is below $100,000.00 will get free Government issue suits and "streamers" in an effort to promote "inclusion".
