Does anyone know if the McManus request for an outdoor burning permit is referring to the piles that have been created on the property being developed between the gas stations? Surely council could never approve a plan that adds that amount of carbon to the atmosphere in the short-term. It is 2016.
Chip the wood waste up. Move it into piles and compost it. Soil is worth a lot of money in Tofino. Also, considering that there is a lot of alder in those piles spread oyster mushroom spawn on it to make it rot faster and grow a crop of mushrooms at the same time. Certainly makes no sense to burn it considering the volume of soil it could make for this topsoil starved town.
Yes the McManus request is to burn those piles. it makes no sense in this day and age to do that and create large volumes of smoke( carbon) while everyone else is working to reduce the carbon footprint. even the provincial government quit burning logging slash piles years ago in the interests of sanity. chipping is the only sane logical way to get rid of those piles most of which didn't need to be put in a pile in the first place. if that's anyone's idea of landscaping I'm afraid they have come to the wrong town.
