The DOT has no comment at this time.

Get rid of all the vacation rentals.

The DOT and council have no will to enforce their own bylaws or even regulate any vacation rental bylaws and never have!
Too many people with their hands in the troff.
The current bylaws with STR's in Tofino are actually somewhat decent but an inactive DOT on their own rules has helped turn it into the out of control train we have. We have more staff on a daily basis in the DOT office but no results from those employee's. The taxpayers are paying for and some are befitting and some are not as its not a fair playing field. It starts at the top and its only gotten steadily worse over the last decade.
The DOT could easily inspect all STR'S yearly to see who is conforming and who is not. Any full time tenant that is housed at a airbnb should be proven to the DOT as part of their biz licence (they should be a working full time employee of the community of Tofino) and not a owner who pretends to live here and keeps the suite for themselves for as and when and rents the home as a STR..
VRBO has a commercial running on tv right now that states "no one wants to stay in a home with the host, come stay with VRBO in your own home.

And then we have three big guys trying to take secure private use of the beach

Well if the beaches become private I guess then the Wick won't mind a few people wandering around with picket signs perhaps blocking the road to the hotel and chanting while guests try to dine on the beach.

This doesn’t privatize the beaches. It allows for temporary use. All the surf schools had to follow the same application. It is another money grab by the provincial government. If you want to use the beach for a bird watching class, you have to apply for tenure.

People have been asked to leave the area in the past. People arriving by Kayak to Schell Beach have been chased off from the Schell beach tent area, it is has been there for years. Why do other beach Hotels have weddings and folks just gather on the beach, but Wick is not content with that. Just moving a few logs around for a fire pit? Get real, you are naïve. Do you think the Province went to the Wick and asked them to apply for something they didn.t want to do.... to generate Revenue.? Who initiated this?

This does not Privatize the beach?.....Really.... then what is the pernmit for but to grant a right. A right that does not already exist in law. A right that the public does not need to lawfully use the beach but a Company does...

Whatever.... this is the thin edge of the wedge....public beware. Temporary Use? Ya like all summer long occupancy. Like the Wick has been doing for years. Ralph, this is a semantic trap.

Just like the surf schools , it started with a complaint to lands branch.

OMG!! I'm just Soooo fuc*in offended and hurt because someone is using the beach, or applying to use it, or somebody else used it, or something. Anything, as long as i can bitch about it, and most importantly, change the subject to something that I want to talk about, show off my inner knowledge. This is such such a big fuc*in deal.

Were we not talking about short term rentals, a lack of residential housing, and the fact that people cannot find a place to live? That, to me, seems like a much more important subject than someone hating the wick, or whatever. You need to wake up and realize that your community is being destroyed, permanently perhaps, and keep your eye on the ball. This Airbnb thing ain't gonna simply go away. And your mayor and council are too much gutless cowards to put a stop to it. It's getting constantly worse. More STR's, less residential housing. They don't even have the backbone to charge these places commercial taxation rates!

But, true to the normal Tofino community spirit. No Stop. What community spirit? It's not about community, it's about profit. And being able to bitch about something.

Boycott Ralph! Boycott Ralph! The enemy of the people! Power to the people!

I can keep my eye on the ball, but you fail to realize there are plenty of balls in play, and your diatribe is lacking a little coherence. But you are right in one regard. This beach thing
"it's not about community,it's about profit"

So Mr. "big fuc*in deal, what are you gunna do about anything. C'mon tell us
