Does anyone recall how much Ukee's rec center cost when it was built?

A lot less than 14 million. Maybe we should wait till we see the cost overruns on the sewer system

Sure be simpler and cheaper to just raise the existing under utilized community hall and put a basement under it. And while at that extend the walls upwards of the existing building. Might require a ramp to enter the building but all the hot air being wasted on this idea of the town needing a fancy new recreation facility could power an elevator or at least some old fashioned lightbulbs in the brains of our town councillors.

All the folks who have already left Tofino, because they can't afford or can't find a place to live, haven't said a thing about how wonderdful this Rec Center would be. They are gone.

I am fine with enjoying the natural wonders of this place. If I wanted to live in Parksville I would move there. Is this proposal different than the "dogs off leash park" some say we so desperately need? Or is it the same people pushing this. Sheesh just go outside and enjoy. Or....Santa...I want a mini track for go-carts for Christmas. Add it to the list Mayor and Council.

Some kind of indoor facility - any kind of facility at this point - is overdue.
This should have been accomplished years ago, but here we are and we now have to deal with it.
The idea that our community hall is under-utilized is grossly incorrect. That fugly building works overtime to house Recreation programs (the new program came out today - have a look and tell me it's under utilized), group bookings, Tla-o-qui-aht cultural events, court, and I'm probably missing a couple more types of events.

My understanding of the Ucluelet Community Centre build is that the CAO at the time was crafty with the build of the Rainforest Drive or Oceanwest properties and that was worked in as an amenity - something like that.

What a place. The school gym is being used we are told(really) how much? the community hall is booked up to the max we are told.... and we need a third facility as a safe space....for the children. These poor kids are everywhere exercising like demons let them have a rest, we don't need a third expensive virtue signalling exercise to go along with all this other exercise.

"any kind of facility' "is overdue" That says it all to me....someone just wants to do something..anything. I suspect another disgruntled municipal employee who goes to sleep every night and knows the job is a big stinking pile and desperately needs some validation.

My advise.....quit and find a real job.

10:33 do you think a small 1 person tent would help? It could be the needed “any kind of facility”. I could donate it. Be cheaper than the tax increase. If you think it would make a better facility, I could donate a 2 person tent instead. If nothing else it might help one of the town’s homeless employees recreate on their time off.

Your right 10:50 we have to deal with it. I support wrapping it up and putting it on the shelf until the taxpayers, not the Tofino Post Government Industrial Complex that occupies Town Hall
and wants to control this place to fulfill their own fantasies , can afford to pay for it.

How much did you just increase your salaries at council....You make the sacrifice. You pay for it. Donate your mayor and council salaries. Mr. Mayor you were asking for donations. You first.

...but but but it's for the children.
and families.
and seniors.
Who doesn't support that, eh?
Spin spin spin

No doubt, to not support the multi million dollar facility will soon be an act of racism, misogyny, and transphobia.

But I just have no money. I feel terrible, really really terrible, but I have no money.

Mr. Mayor you are taking food out of the mouths of children, families, seniors. Oh the shame.
