Un-attended watering of gardens and lawns is NOT permitted. Please be sure to use available water with care, by ensuring that no water is wasted and by conserving and re-using water where possible. The District of Tofino would like to thank the residents and businesses for your support with these water conservation measures. These regulations will be strictly enforced and infractions will be prosecuted.

Water Restrictions Implemented

Good Afternoon,

Effective immediately, the District of Tofino is implementing Stage 1 Water Conservation Measures. This means that watering of lawns and gardens or other activities requiring large use of water is permitted only as follows:

· Even numbered civic addresses may sprinkle on Tuesdays and Fridays between the hours of 6:00 A.M. and 9:00 A.M. and between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M.

· Odd numbered civic addresses may sprinkle on Mondays and Thursdays between the hours of6:00 A.M. and 9:00 A.M. and between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and10:00 P.M.

Note - Automatic Sprinkler Systems

Special arrangements may be made for premises equipped with timed, automatic sprinkler systems and/or newly landscaped areas. Please contact the Public Works Foreman at 725-4212 for further information.

Tax Rate Error

The final tax rates outstanding from other agencies were received on May 3,

2016 after which time staff proceeded to input the tax rates into the District’s software. The error was

detected on Friday, May 13

and confirmed by the Financial Officer

on Monday, May 16

A previous presentation to Council indicated that an average single family residential property that

increased in assessed value by 3% would

decrease

in municipal

taxation

over

2015 by 13% or $179. By

amending

the tax rate bylaw to include a further

collection of $693,634, this same property would see

increase

in municipal taxation of 8% or $113.

In the Business and Other class, a previous

presentation to Council indicated that a business property that increased in assessed value by 3% would

decrease

in municipal taxation over 2015 by 12% or $584. By amending the tax rate bylaw to include a

further collection of $693,634 this same property would see an

increase

in municipal taxation of 9% or $423.
