The six councillors should be paid the same total amount as the top six paid district staff members.(salary plus expenses) How much is that? $800,000.00, $900,000.00? Sounds fair to me.
If council can vote to approve this increase, maybe they could also move to reduce the number of themselves up for next election, from six down to four. That's a 50% saving on councillors, for the taxpayer. All of these past years with six brilliant minds at the table hasn't helped. .....(continue to do the same thing and expect a different result). Reduction of the size of government would be a totally appropriate gesture to the needs of the people, at this time. There's no need for the taxpayers of Tofino to support these two additional, unneeded voices. Four can get it wrong just as well as six.
What are the proposed salaries and yes dump two council members for sure. But how about reducing the bloated DOT Staff. And trying to actually control costs for once? Crazy I know.

Question is.....What are we getting for the increased staff and generous remuneration.
Have we solved any problems? Housing? water? recreation? downtown parking?
How is the town better off because of the increased spending?
Answer is, it isn't. In fact it is worse as your taxes continue to climb....11% last year. Making the town more unaffordable for most.

Councillors are extremely underpaid and do a job that most people would never consider doing. Paying them a little bit more only makes sense.
Agreed 10:11pm but we dont need 6 when 4 will do the job just fine.
