I am confused. I thought Catalyst was the developer. Why aren't they selling their own duplexes?. Why is a consultant employed by the THC doing the marketing?. Who is paying him to do the marketting?....What lane is he in now? Maybe the consultant can't stay in his own lane because he is unclear?. This suggests he never had a very well-defined lane to begin with. He can just slide from one to the other and no one really notices. Are we the taxpayers paying him to market these duplexes on behave of Catalyst
Duncan Mc Master, candidate for council, supports THC and Catalyst and supports giving them even more funding. There are seven candidates, six seats, and one gotta go.
All the candidates support the THC. Is this groupthink?
Duncan seems to be currently advising a wait and see slow down on any immediate THC activity. Read his comments(the most extensive of all the candidates) in the recently conducted Tofino Ratepayers Assoc candidate questionnaire. Go to ..... tofinorpa.ca ...... and click on.... Election 2022.... for the latest comments from the candidates. Thank you RPA for doing this.
Few suggest any support for the market economy to be able to help on housing issues. Every market has two sides. supply and demand. We know that for 15-20 years supply has been throttled, by bureaucracy and folks who are in love with their newly acquired powers as bureaucrats and politicians, while demand has been continuously escalating. If you want to bring down prices you need competition. More supply than demand. This is never going to happen in Tofino. To many folks are development averse. Not enough land.....save the trees....We want to be a little village ambience....etc.
All these conditions are somewhat delusional. There is actually multiple times more acres of developable land than is currently developed. And most of the land is restricted to very low density acreage uses. Go up Radar hill and look at Tofino. Go up the hill at the south end of Cox bay and what do you see......TREES. You can hardly see the developmentat all. Will we use up the available land on the Esowista Peninsula in the next hundred years?. No worries bro. If the climate don't kill us, the Chinese will take over, or Covid will come back and get us. So whatever, we are done anyway.....Right?
But whatever, continue to say the market isn't working and you prove the point. It will never work if you strangle the supply, because....because... the market isn't working. People in Tofino are just too stupid, too conservative to support development ....right wing loons. Ha Ha. This is what most people wanted.. So that is what you get. Plenty of trees. Little supply
Can someone tell me who is paying for the construction of this crap? And who is going to profit from the markup on the labour and materials? And why, if the district supplied the land for free shouldn't there be a much less cost? And yes, are we still paying IAN SCOTT to sell us our own duplex? This is getting Beyond ludicrously stupid.
Yes! Hard to tell if the "consultant" is working for the Developer or the Taxpayers. I suspect he is working for himself. That has been the problem from the get-go. All I really know is the folks who live here and fund this shit and give these people free land are getting hosed.
If you give Ian Scott more money, then more houses will appear. That's science. Trust us.
ReplyDelete...note: Only a week left to enter the lottery. Don't matter, winners are probably already selected.
ReplyDeleteWinners ?? Haha
