Stage 3 Water Restrictions

https://www.tofino.ca/blog/view/stage-3-water-restrictions

Council and staff should pay as much attention to the water supply as they do to pay parking and downtown revitalization. The District of Tofino used to post our daily water consumption rates on their website but as far as I can see it is no longer published. If anyone knows how much water we are using please comment.

There is a comprehensive water study underway. The best consultants have been hired. Resorts can fill hot tubs but don’t water your garden.

This is a good example of ignoring past studies, consultants, commonsense, and the ability to add and subtract. After ignoring these ordinary banal items the district is busily reinventing itself as a new authority on all matters by ordering new studies, new consultants, and made information about water confidential and secret.
In the new omnipotent authority on water, affordable housing, tourism, parking, and anything else concerning the citizens of this community the district will issue a new Royal proclamation soon just before the election stating what most of the common folk know already: we are out of water.

To 6:19 That does not answer the question posed.

Largest consumer of water in Tofino (the fish processing plant) is closed this summer. Hot Tubs if maintained and used properly emptied only once every 3-4 weeks. Baths, showers and toilets are used every day. Big difference in water consumption.

Yep, I recall it from during the election campaign. The Mayor supports doing a comprehensive study of our water use, so informed decisions can be made in the future. So I don't see the purpose of this story...D.O.T. obviously has a close grip on the situation. As soon as the head of Public Works gets this parking thing organized, he'll then be able to use this water use study data to act to solve the problem. Should be done by.... Dec? Jan?

I believe the purpose of the story is to illuminate the fact that the district has never had a grip on anything pertaining to the water and all the smoke and mirrors of promises and more studies is simply to stick the district head in the sand when it comes to actually making a decision...... Which should have been done along time ago.
Why the elected officials can't be bothered to look at the districts mountain of information and evidence about the water system is what constitutes the new rebuild better mandate.. which is just plain stupid. More data and more surveys are useless if there are people in charge who are unable to think.
what do you think now that we are fast about to be out of water?

It will rain. It always rains. Why are you all so negative ?

We have had study after study, followed by analysis after analysis and the endless reshuffling of priorities( Tofino priorities are more fluid than the water in the pipes).
The only thing we have not had is... more water in the pipes.

More than a decade has passed and no effort to put more water into the system.
The reservoir on Meares remains unfinished.

There is "no water" for new housing development( unless you are an untaxed unaffordable out of town housing "charity". This organization is composed of takers. The lawyers advise the Disrict on how you can manipulate water rationing and pull the wool over the publics eyes.

And Yet commercial uses increase all around us. New campgrounds, expanded hotels.

Yesterday there was a lineup of folks filling their 5 gallon jugs and washing themselves at the beach showers, then driving off in their dust caked van. Back to the West Main Autonomous zone.

Seema like there is water for everyone..... everyone else... except you.

Water policy is a sham, Reminds me of that old movie China Town. Jack Nicholson got his nose slit for looking too closely at what was happening.

Waiting for the "WOK' to "WAKE" up. In regard to water, you are being hosed.

Remember how nice it was during the first days of the pandemic? No tourists, no traffic, no hustle and bustle, quiet and serene. It was great! If we run out of water, it'll be like that again, when all the resorts are forced to close down. A nice drought could be exactly what this town needs.

I thought that I might die from covid. Now it looks more likely that I'll die from thirst. Weird.

It says on Facebook and Fox News that water is actually bad for you. The Anti-Aqua movement in Tofino is gaining momentum. Stay away from those drinking water.
