Gotta agree! Josie Osborne moving on to Victoria would probably be the best thing to happen to Tofino this year.
It's been suggested that the cure for many of Tofino's fiscal woes depend upon a re-allocation of revenue sources, a re-allocation dependent upon the whims of the provincial government. Per haps, one can hope, that as a member of this provincial government, Ms Osborne would be in a better position to represent the interests of the taxpayers of Tofino and achieve this re-allocation of revenue. Something she has failed to accomplish in any way, as mayor.
She is more likely to allocate funds to first nation and environmental groups . Still , it is best to get rid of her as she has been a miserable failure as mayor.
As mayor , she has failed to represent the people of Tofino . She has been more concerned with other groups that will pave the way to higher office. We need a mayor that will put Tofino first.
10:50 AM. I don't think so. She won't give any funds to the first nations. Yeah, she talks up the big talk, bragging of her deep connections to the natives, but all she's ever done for them is to employ herself at their expense and use them as political pawns in her grasp for more power. Over seven years as mayor and Tofino has zero first nations people on staff in any capacity whatsoever, not even as summer student help in the parks dept. No jobs...None! Oh yes, she'll try to allocate funds.... but it'll be to her friends, and for her own benefit, not to the first nations.
That isn't totally true. The children's centre employs a local indigenous staff full time year round. Not that she hired him, but still worth pointing out
Watching Osborne performing as mayor is like watching the Maple Leafs trying to win the Stanley Cup. Entertaining, but deep inside you know that it just ain't gonna happen. Given her record of consistent failures, it's just not reasonable to elect her to a position of even greater responsibility for even more complex issues. She's done so much damage in Tofino that it's terrifying to imagine the havoc and chaos that she might wield if given the opportunity to wreck the entire riding. Being "cute" and "nice" isn't enough when you step into the ring with the big time guys. You need to be a competent political administrator too. She's not.
I saw Josie go from a well intentioned mayor for Tofino to a true self centred politician who only cared about advancing her political career, looking for a huge salary, benefits and pension. Sad how this can happen, George will be able to retire in comfort!
I don't think Poon is that wealthy that she can easily afford this. I think she is genuinely sincere. Different than her main opponent, who comes off as all "show me the money". Just like our current MP, looking for the "golden handshake", for two terms of existence, er I mean, I should say work.
I am surprised Josie didn't run for the Greens as she is perhaps inclined policy wise. Expedience over principle I guess. No $$ in coming third and no power. Or perhaps they didn't want her under their flag. I don't agree with the Greens but at least they have principles. Albeit the wrong principles.
9:34 PM.... that's not really accurate, it's not $400K. In BC, the MLA basic salary is about $111K. Government ministers (finance, environment, indigenous affairs, etc.) get an additional $55K, for a total to the minister of about $165K. Here's the interesting part.... The BC (population just over 5 million) minister of finance gets the same salary as Bob McPherson, CAO for the District of Tofino (population 1,800). How the f**k is this!! The minister responsible for the tax dollars of 5 million people gets the same salary as some desk jockey in Tofino watching over the finances of a mere 1,800. And, if you investigate the goings-on in the district office and the current state of Tofino's finances, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that he does a really poor job! God, please elect Osborne, and get her out of town. And send us a new mayor, with a backbone, that'll stand up for the taxpayers and clean house in the district office.

ReplyDeleteThrow this one back. She is undersized. You can keep her Tofino. It is your problem. Poon all the way, baby!

ReplyDeleteI can’t believe that Josie would abandon Tofino just when the Mayor’s Task Force is starting to make real progress.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Ms. Poon, or anything about her.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with the Liberal's platform in several ways.
I have no faith whatsoever in Mr. Wilkerson.
I am familiar with Josie Osborne and I know what to expect from her.
I know how much I can trust Josie Osborne.
I know how competent Josie Osborne is.
I've already voted, by mail..... for Ms. Poon.
If Ms. Osborne is elected to the legislature, who will ensure that the non-profits in Tofino profit ?

She has learned well from Scott Fraser.
ReplyDelete12:15 PM Haha. Make Osborne do her job as mayor. Elect Poon

ReplyDeleteIt is the very definition of a dilemma : "a difficult choice between alternatives...especially equally undesirable ones".
ReplyDelete1:04 PM hehe

ReplyDeleteThank you for that .

ReplyDeleteIf elected, Poon is pledging her entire salary as a MLA, over $400,000.00, to go to local charities. just read it in the PA paper.
ReplyDeleteCome on Josie....match the challenge.
Poon says she will donate her salary!

Poon pledged not just one year but her entire term. 4X100,000 plus = over $400,000
