This public hearing was really interesting, Well attended in spite of those who felt they couldn't attend because of covid concerns.
The issues raised were many and varied as the Westerley article suggests, but the article only scratches the surface. The public opposition was like a tsunami.Coming after the proposal from every point of view and exposing its inadequacies and weaknesses The detail and strategic thinking on the part of the citizenry was amazing in dismantling the many false fronts posited by the self serving zealots supporting this proposal I came away with renewed confidence that the community is stronger than I thought. It was a great night for Tofino. Council should take heed.

its apparent that this whole fiasco is a scheme to enrich some and not others i.e. people needing affordable housing. and at the expense of the taxpayers. right now there is no extra water for anything...unless council wants to give away any water from the firefighting reserve
12:35 You are only partly correct, while it will be a huge burden on the taxpayers, the housing will not be affordable for the majority of residents. As we enter water restrictions again this year, does it make sense to add yet more housing before our lack of water is addressed.
"'Cathy Thicke also spoke against the project, calling its lack of parking stalls “completely crazy” though adding a smaller complex of about 40 units could be tenable. “This idea about car free living, that simply is not true in Tofino,” she said. “‘
When Cathy herself was on Tofino council she emptied our "Parking in Lieu Fund”. These funds were meant to be used to fix the parking problem!! ,but instead used to turn parking spots into planter pots. (downtown revitalization fiasco) Just on Campbell St. alone they burned nearly $450.000 from the parking fund!! (That’s in addition to all the RMI Jackpot money they blew on that street)

Talking about “completely crazy” Cathy ?
I wonder why she didn't get re-elected. Couldn't she have done a better job of squandering our money than the current bunch? Yikes at that thought.
