So Josie says, via the press, that Tofino expects Area C, the Park and first Nations to contribute to the sewage plant. Is that capital costs or operational costs? Why do they send out the Newsletter showing no contributions or impact on the budget. Why are Tofitians shown as the only local contributor. Just tell us the formula for factoring in the contributions of "others". Maybe we can move on.
Maybe that formula doesn't exist yet?.....What are you waiting for?. Waiting for Tofino to borrow and spend millions before negotiating a resolution to that issue?
The streets are full of potholes. The streets and sidewalks, where our children walk, are dark at night. On many streets, there are no sidewalks at all. Many parking areas have been turned into flower gardens. There's not enough water supply to meet current and future needs. We're still pumping raw sewage into the ocean. Dogs are running at large, without consequences, and crapping on our beaches. The same old drunks are continuing to be a public disgrace in front of the bank. Development of much needed housing has come to a near complete halt. The condition of our public parks, in many areas, is disgraceful. The 1st street dock is soon going to collapse. People and families are fleeing the town because they cannot find a place to live. Most of these problems have existed for decades, it's not like they're sudden unexpected occurances that couldn't have been forseen and planned for.
Yet, Taxes continue to rise every year. Fees for municipal services continue to rise every year. Even more future increases have been announced.
Despite all this, Hiring in the District office continues at a blistering pace, District staff still enjoy annual pay increases, along with their fat salaries and perks, The purchase of even more District cars and trucks expands unbelievably. Waste, extravagance, and a "favors for friends" mentality continues to predominate the policies of local government. Enforcement of the by-laws of the district are applied only on a "Don't hurt anyone's feelings" basis, and only if the mayor and council feel like doing so.
And, The current mayor and council feel they deserve to be re-elected.

Get Real
At Tofino's open house about taxes two years ago, the projected tax increases for years to come were projected at 2%......Oops
