SOFI numbers up over 1200% in last twenty years. Are the taxpayers getting good value for their tax dollars? Of course not. Where has all the money gone? Salaries, circus' and tourist services. Let's build another parking lot at the beach so tourists can come surf for free.... The one built last year is full already. Full of surf lesson customers....We owe it to them....sic. But Tofino can't afford the basic water improvements to enable the residential development it needs.....Very disappointing...
This is Jarmo Venalainen, the resident, who along with my wife, visitors and guests is being smoked out by Lil Ronnies Smoker at the end of Campbell Street.
Here's a video of care and maintenance which shows why the appliance makes so much smoke,
I want to be clear that my wife and I support the businesses and business activity. What we cannot however live in, is the persistent smoke and PM 2.5 smoke particulate matter. The intent of all of the letters to council is:
1. Stop the health endangering smoke from infesting our home. 2. Have the development follow the normal development and zoning rules which we have in Totino. (ex. 4 parking places is not enough)
We favor having a businesses here. We like the businesses and owners.
I will be giving a 10 minute talk on the development and its impact the AUg 10th Council Meeting.
Please come and listen, if you want to hear things direct from the person who wrote the correspondence to council.
The helicopter that lands in town is actually landing illegally . It must be reported to Transport Canada (with the helicopters call sign) to make it stop.
@ August 14 10:08am: No. They just announced the return of the hospital helipad which is 8 years overdue. The Coast Guard helipad is necessary. There are times when emergency services absolutely need to land wherever they can. Another level of bureaucracy is unnecessary and unwanted.
The Province newspaper today published a story showing how much local municipal tax is collected and spent per person per year in the various lower mainland communities.
West Vancouver wins out as the highest at $2583 per year per person. Surrey is the lowest at $1057 per year per person.
Here's the cool thing. Tofino beat out all of them at over $3300 per person per year.
Jarmo, You don't understand how things work here in Tofino. Those additional costs are mostly the result of the high staff levels in the district office, and most of those extra staff members are friends of the mayor.........
Just had a look at the SOFI reports for the past few years. WTF??? Drain the swamp! https://tofino.civicweb.net/filepro/documents/14588
