Perhaps these poor people who cannot find an affordable place to live here in a high end tourist destination should seek housing elsewhere. Perhaps Paris, Manhattan, Lake Tahoe, Monaco, The Hamptons, Hong Kong, West Vancouver or some such place would be more suitable for them as a "place to raise a family". There are places in this world where market circumstances make housing expensive.... REALLY expensive!. That's the way the cookie crumbles. Sorry if the surf school can't find a cheap place for their part-time staff to sleep after they party all evening, but that shouldn't be the problem of the taxpayer.
Ya we need more housing, who is surprised by this.
Someone who attended the meeting told me the consultant was very complementary of the great work done by the former Tofino Housing committee... Let me recall..... free municipal land and $400,000.00 of tax payers money budgeted for a new committee independent of council, so they can really get something done.
Lets look at the accomplishments
A couple of years later, money gone, no units created, some coloured concept pictures and an understanding that we need some housing... and the best part, the fearless leader, who with straight face, continually played the "for the community card," subsequently leaves town for greener pastures with most of the $400,000.00 in their pocket.
Makes Mike Duffy and his Senate cronies look like rank amateurs. and makes me sick. Never again mayor and councillors.
Money well spent....... Well, it's money, and it's spent. Foolishness!!

ReplyDeleteSeems to me that Braden Smith, former CAO, had a good deal as far as affordable housing goes.. And yep, we paid for that too..
