For some reason there is a note on the water bill for Long Beach Lodge showing that only 1/5th of the actual consumption was captured. When you compare it to the water bill for Tin Wis you will see quite a difference for a similar sized operation. For some reason the meter at Long Beach Lodge didn't get changed until April 1,2014. So it was obvious the somebody knew there were problems back as 2006
why are there civic employees in the affordable housing unit ?
ReplyDeleteAll lies and innuendo. There is nothing on Twitter or Facebook. #watermetergate or #itsallgood ?
ReplyDeleteWe have highly paid staff to watch over these things.Maybe with their generous raise they will take their jobs seriously.

ReplyDeleteThe Mayor says only two meters were wrong. Is this the truth ?
ReplyDeleteShawn Hillier So do we get to subsidize the big resorts water budget again this year?

Tofino Mayor Josie Osborne Resort meters were replaced with new meters. The two meters that were being read incorrectly are being read correctly, so no. The entire pricing system will be re-evaluated this year now that there are much more accurate consumption data (and I hope that results in a much simpler system).

My research indicates that there were problems with many meters. I don't expect the Mayor to personally review all the water bills. The Mayor relies on staff to provide this information.
ReplyDeleteCome on Ralph. the Mayor is very well aware about what's going on.
ReplyDeleteShe has seen the request from the "Resort Association" for a break on the summer water bill... You even posted the document on your blog on march 12th.
Only 2 resorts.... she is just covering up the truth... it's black on white.
DISGUSTING
Just as it is possible to say that there was no loss of revenue it is possible to say that only two meters were "read" incorrectly. The other meters were "read" correctly but provided faulty data.
ReplyDeleteI can understand the coverup by staff but what is the motive for politicians downplaying this situation ? Was there a conscious coverup by council ? It seems if not for the resorts wanting cheaper water rates none of this would have become public.

There was no loss of revenue
There was no loss of revenue
There was no loss of revenue
Repeat until believed
I worked some numbers and came up with the astonishing figure, based on only one resorts' meter readings of a conservative $450,000 shortfall in revenue over a few years of data. If that 450,000 is divided by about 750 meters in Tofino, that means each and every one of those meter owners has subsidized that resort by at least $600. I haven't worked through the rest as the owner of this blog figures it is a waste of time since all the resort meters have been providing questionable numbers. If that is one resort what is the total for all the resorts. Like that old Eagles song.... and for how long has this been going on.
