Watermetergate Solution

If your BC Hydro meter malfunctions you are billed based on past consumption. The obvious solution is for the customers that were not charged the full amount for their water use to meet with the District and figure out what a fair repayment would be.
For their part the District should review staff actions and reporting policies to make sure this doesn't happen again.
I'm sure that the customers that were under charged will want to preserve their good name in the community.

  1. Yes Ralph, and the obvious solution for the customers that were OVERCHARGED is that they should be reimbursed.
this is just to crazy for words

    btw not all meters malfunctioned!
2 resort meters were read 1 decimal out by incompetent district staff, that's why they were only paying 10%

  2. I'm not sure if it was a decimal out on the meter or the reading but somebody in a higher position should have caught the error.

  3. Here's a math quiz:
if A costs 2 cents to produce and you sell A for one cent, how much is the real cost of A?
and if you don't notice the difference between the cost of production of A and the income from the sale of A and subsequently produce a budget based upon the projected income from the sale of A how long would it take to see that the cost of production of A far exceeds the income from the sale of A?
if A equals 2,000,000 gallons of water at one cent per gallon production cost i.e. electricity, wages, materials, equipment, and a reserve fund for functional obsolescence or replacement, that's only $40,000.
if the sale of A equals $20,000. in reality the actual cost( shortfall of $20,000) associated with the production of A is taken up by the taxpayer.
but in the budget it all looks okay because the real costs aren't taken into account.
or am I crazy mistaken deranged a political dissident wrong a troublemaker and malcontent and someone who's not grateful for the service I've been given by the unseeing hand of a beneficent body politic

  5. ... and budgets are what the author would like them to be.

From experience have learned that, given an array of numbers large enough, can make most any presentation appear rational.

In response to Ralph's @2:22 PM - brings to mind that old adage about some being more equal than others

  6. so local families and households are basically on the hook for subsidizing water for a few large resorts !@##$%#@ a few issues here -- is there not a question of competency or lack of it in our village office staff with billing and collecting fees for this precious commodity ? what has been done to address this as someone was asleep at the wheel here -- if a resort used the water and didn't pay I kinda wonder what this says about their support of community and moral ethicacy -- is our staff at work now using past documentation to get the proper bills out ?

  7. Why don't they fire these under-performers at the DoT office ?
Tofino Mayor and Council need to take care of business, that's why we elected them.

    * Here's another fine example of incompetent Staff :
Tofino Business owner buys 11 parking-in-lieu spots for $33.000
The owner finds out 6 years later that only 8 parking spots for $24.000 have been registered in the bylaw !!

We are in good hands Tofino !
