Many readers have asked for a post regarding the Campbell St project and the two new 4-way stop signs.....even some enviros think the new stop signs are stupid while some eco-weenies see the reduction in parking spots and new stop signs as an opening skirmish for the "War on Cars ".....their thinking is that with less parking and more interruption to traffic flow that even red-necks will ride bicycles.....I saw several cars blow through the stop signs and no bicycles stopped at all.....your comments please....
Why not just ban locals ??
ReplyDeleteNext they'll put a speed bump obstacle course on Neill and Main Street to slowdown locals that avoid congested Campbell
ReplyDeleteStop and start traffic has far more greenhouse gas emissions than smoothly flowing traffic. There is nothing environmentally friendly about this project ! Cutting trees to promote sustainability ??
ReplyDeleteThis is a great leap forward for Tofino and will be sure to win many design awards.
ReplyDeleteI'm not gonna be sad to see an end to the assholes from Vanvouver that used to like to blow past the pharmacy at 65kmh. SLOW THE F**K DOWN!! All of you.
ReplyDeleteAppears that someone wasn't paying attention at the meeting of the District and Ministry last year, several Campbell St. safety ideas were discussed, including four-way stops
ReplyDeleteThank you for your input
ReplyDeleteHaven't you noticed all the beautiful young women walking on the streets of Tofino, this time of year? Those stop signs are a perfect place to stop, ogle, and reflect on our blessings. What are you complaining about?
ReplyDeleteSexist remark
ReplyDeleteI'm not complaining about anything. I was just curious as council voted unanimously against replacing an existing stop sign by SoBo...
ReplyDeleteAt peak times the traffic from the stop sign at fourth st is backed up to Shelter. What will two more stop signs do ?
ReplyDelete2 more stop signs will make the main drag into one large parking lot! OMG!! they just solved the parking crisis! As usual a bit of an overkill.
ReplyDeleteIf you were truly interested in what happens/is happening/what will happen in this town, then you would attend Council meetings to question and/or comment....if you did, none of this would be a "surprise"...
ReplyDeleteI did attend the information meeting for the upgrade but didn't notice the stop signs or rock walls. They aren't shown on the plan I was given.Feel free to contribute any information you feel is newsworthy. Thanks
ReplyDeleteMayor & Council didn't even know about these 4-way stops !!
ReplyDeleteWTF can we expect from Staff at 70K a year ?
Wtf who cares about cars when it nevers rain in the rainforest anymore...
ReplyDeleteThey don't even pick up recycling on the curb anymore, so it's all going in the garbage now.
What a shitshow, keep on smiling :-) and pretending it's all ok
Mayor Josie on Facebook:
ReplyDeleteAs of today, there are two new 4-way stops in downtown Tofino (2nd and Campbell, 3rd and Campbell). This was a Ministry decision (it's a provincial road, not a District road) that I (we) was informed of by the appearance of the signs! Initial survey says…? [See my additional comment below for more info.]
Seems there was a communication gap - at a meeting of the District and Ministry about a year ago, several safety ideas were discussed about four-way stops - including the 4th and Campbell "problem stop," lowering speed limits, and changes in traffic patterns. It would seem the Ministry decided to install four-way stops at these two intersections. The stop bars being painted were a hint, for certain, but the installation of the signs still took me by surprise. My own thoughts - although it's going to be the bigger pain in the butt in the winter and may divert traffic to Main or Neill (maybe that's a good thing for Main Street, so long as people aren't ripping up and down the road), it does increase the safety of the intersections. If it helps encourage people to just park and walk around, then I see that as good.
Thanks for that.I'm not on Facebook
ReplyDeletere:Mayor Josie on facebook So if Campbell st. is a Provincial road then why is the District doing all these 'improvements'?
ReplyDeleteExcellent question! I would like the answer to that one myself! Can someone in the know explain why?
