The mean-spirited firing of long time District of Tofino employee Sally Mole has cost the taxpayer more than $90,000.00 .Please ask your councillors if they think this is good value ? Since the firing or restructuring , two former Parks and Rec staff have advanced their positions and the District is hiring more staff for the former Parks and Rec Dept, so where are the savings ? This amount is just for severance never mind a wrongful dismissal lawsuit.Shameful !! Please note that this took place under the watch of former Mayor Perry Schmunk and former CAO Braden Smith. For what it's worth things seem to much better without them.......
Glad to see the blog stirring the pot again.Council has to answer for this.
ReplyDeleteTruly disgusting
ReplyDeleteI have to compliment staff for providing this FOI request in a prompt and courteous manner.A refreshing change !
ReplyDeleteI fail to see how one can accept a severance and pursue a wrongful dismissal case? It's one or the other, you can't have your cake and eat it.
ReplyDeleteseverance is pay in recognition of time served as described in the BC Labour Code.A wrongful or constructive dismissal case would be argued in a court of law and would be concerned with the context of the dismissal.Apples and oranges....
ReplyDeleteA court search shows no pending litigation in this case at this time......
ReplyDeleteNinety thousand dollars and I could forgive the district any grievances I had.
ReplyDeleteThat's more than twice what I make in a year unless I win the Grand Prize from the Co-op Fill Up To Win Contest.
$90,000. Wow.
Paying someone 90k not to work is a poor use of tax dollars.
ReplyDeleteThis makes absolutely no sense, except that it was something personal with/about Sally Mole, which I would think gives her basis for a wrongful termination suit.
ReplyDeleteWell played Tofino Council, well played... Give Sally a big payout so she can have the time to sit on Ucluelet Council and make the positive changes there that she used to make here.. Smart use of our taxes for sure.
ReplyDeleteGreat....we're paying for Ucluelet Council !
ReplyDeleteC'mon, it's only $90,000.00.....it's not like it's "real" money, it's "tax dollars". No one had to work to get this money, it's not like it's coming out of anyone's pocket or wallet or bank account. It's "tax dollars"....free money that council gets just by being in the room, that they can spend, squander, waste, give away or dispose of in any way they choose.
ReplyDeleteThey've got the money, they need to get rid of it, or they might need to reduce taxes. (Heaven forbid that)
As for 9:23PM comment, you are wrong. Council does not need to answer for this. They've been elected, they're the closest thing that Tofino has to royalty, and they can act in any manner they choose..... and YOU DON"T DESERVE ANY EXPLANATION!!
For better or worse Sally is gone, the money is gone, Tofino may or may not get sued, and none of it is any of your business.
So shut up and enjoy the new curbs.
Drink your kool-aid.
Good one !!
ReplyDeleteCouncil was acting according to the advice of the same genius that cost us 1.3 million in the Yew Wood court case. They would have fired themselves if he had asked them to.Absolutely brilliant bunch.
ReplyDeleteAll this negativity ! Can't you feel the love ? C'mon people let's get together and have a happening . It's only money.Get an Arts Grant to make candles.Bring back the weeping cedar woman.
ReplyDelete9:00 PM, Tofino is so screwed up I doubt that the weeping cedar woman wants to come back to Tofino.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know how much was spent on legal fees, first, to figure out how to get rid of Sally, and then to negotiate the severance package. Add that to the high cost of restructuring. Maybe getting rid of Sally is part of the RMI plan! Looks like the RMI department has money to burn judging by last weeks Westerly..
ReplyDeleteHere is the way to ask how the money was spent....
ReplyDeleteOne of the criteria for requesting information is it has to be in writing (email is acceptable) and to indicate that you are seeking records and not just information, here is a suggestion:
"Any and all records regarding the funding/costs for {list of the local matter} including legal fees, administrative costs etc. The date range is {put in a date range}"
Using those words will ensure that you will receive all the records associated with the local matter. I hope this helps.
I find it embarrassing to not have a parks and recreation department anymore. I have guests that use the services when they come out in summer and when I have to tell them who to call, frankly I'm embarrassed. Community sustainability is who they have to call and they laugh at me...!
ReplyDeleteWell done Braden!
ReplyDeleteI am pleased for Sally, and hope this eases the sting of being treated so very poorly.
Really Ralph, as I know you know you could do better, I guess that is why we will see you throw your hat in the ring during the next municiple election.
ReplyDeleteWhy did most of the town know what was going on with Sally and yet council was brainwashed ? I hope Ralph does run . A four year old could see through the previous administrator.
ReplyDeleteNever mind that the majority of Tofitians wanted Sally to stay. Nope, just like the Government. A little group of people can override what the community wants. Let's be straight for once ! Insider jealousy that cost us 90 thousand dollars. Great job to the former Mayor who left us for a very high paying job somewhere else. What did that cost and who paid for it ? What a joke !
