Parks and Rec Update

I just spoke to Sally Mole about the current situation. She said that she has not been contacted by any councillors with regards to her dismissal. She said she was not offered an alternative position. She said she has not received any reprimands or letters of criticism in her time with the District.
The only person at the District that writes an annual performance review is the CAO.
I realize that council is not legally required to get both sides of the story but one would think that you should hear from a 20 year employee before they are dismissed without notice.I respectfully ask council that they contact Ms. Mole and at least give her a chance to present her side of this story.
          Thanks,Ralph Tieleman

  3. It would be unfortunate if Council made a decision without hearing from the person the complaint is about. To dismiss an employee, highly valued with so much experience and not speak with them about their performance ? What's going on ? All the councillors stood up and talked about "community, transparency, and public consultation" Where are these values ?

  5. Councilors have no doubt heard from Braden. Have they heard from Sally? I'm sure they've not heard her story. It's just not allowed under what Ralph calls the hourglass system.

  6. There have been a lot of comments that I cannot print . As all discussion occurred in camera it is not known if anyone was misinformed or what spin was presented.Letters of reference from former elected officials and employees are not subject to FOI requests.

  7. Oh I'm sure there was misinformation. Get informed council!!

  8. our politicians, rather than be considered to be leaders in the direction of humane, intelligent and caring government, have become "ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its citizens concerns."
    i wonder where this is?

  10. ICSP stands for Integrated Community Sustainability Plan. This is a long term plan that would
overarch all of the District bylaws to provide a common path forward for Tofino. The project would
begin in 2017. The project would be funded over the next 4 years ($6250) The actual quote cost for
this project is $49,000 (2010), I have included a 25% contingency for budget purposes. The District
would pursue matching funds through grants in 2017

Ensure good governance, fiscal responsibility, open government, and effective and efficient local
    government and practices and procedures.
    From the 2013 Tofino Budget

  11. If it's true that she's not had any reprimands that should be reflected in her personnel file. Has council ever looked at it? Probably not..... Council duped ? No not in this town!

note:sorry I had to edit a few choice words from this anonymous comment

  12. Whatever the true reason is for firing Sally Mole (we may never know) I think it is absolutely inexcusable how she was fired. A valuable, long time and dedicated employee simply does not deserve to be kicked to the curb without notice and just before Christmas to boot. Apart from simple decency demanding better treatment than what she got, it would have been less costly to give her proper notice ahead of time. The way she was fired was cowardly and wrong!!!!
As to why she was fired without any evidence of any wrong doing on her part I would think that she probably fought too hard for what she believed in and was just in the way of our new "Corporate" Tofino.

  13. All I know is that for 20 years Sally Mole has been an asset to this community. She has worked hard to make Tofino a better place for all of us. It is shameful in the extreme how our council "rewarded" her for her efforts! Please show your support for her by attending tomorrows meeting or at least write to DOT to let them know how you feel!

  14. Council doesn't fire staff in the Municipal world - the CAO fires staff. Council shouldn't be involved in staffing - that's micro management of the administration. Sally is a beacon in the community! If they REALLY WERE restructuring, they'd make room for someone with her abilities and hell, her 'corporate memory' for lack of a better term! She's the only one to have survived Council after Council, Mayor after Mayor, CAO after CAO. She can tell you who's who in the zoo and the history of every project since Duran Duran!

All I gotta say is DOT blew it big time!

    Good Luck tomorrow Tofitians!!
