I have decided that this would be a good time to for me to try and help
Tofino. Having spent a long while in Tofino and witnessed many of the
bizarre decisions of this, and councils before, I will throw my hat into the
mayoral by-election ring.
I, as many will know, co-own the pharmacy and lead an amazing team of
staff, and have faced the challenges of hiring/firing, attracting and keeping
staff many, many times in this community. I believe in, and
practice transparency while being able to keep and respect confidentiality where
required.
I neither tweet, nor facebook but I do email, and phone. My email is pdm134@gmail.com and you can reach me, or
leave a msg at 250 725 3101 x 225
If you have any questions please post them and I will respond in a guest
post, as I don't want to have blog entry with a long train of responses, nor
create a bunch of work for Ralph.
George Smith
George if you are voted in as mayor would you try and give Sally back her job?
ReplyDeleteWill you hire Sally back ? I will vote for you if you do
ReplyDeleteWith the information I have which is nothing, I would do everything I could to reverse this decision...so YES I would.
ReplyDeleteTo the anonymous post just received: you can address direct questions to the candidate at the contact info above, thanks,Ralph
ReplyDeleteWE finally have the current mayor doing the right thing.... George , I would vote for you in heartbeat. BUT , let Sally go ( why keep throwing good money away ), she was one of the many stumbling blocks with the parks and rec. I really think you would make an excellent mayor. Being a Local business owner and RESIDENT of Tofino.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know she was a stumbling block with parks and rec? Back up your statement!

ReplyDeleteEven when i knew the blog was down. Out of habit, as i did my daily internet ritual, I would click on the tofinonews blog and get nothing, dammit. I use this site to be entertained with random comments of all stripes and municipal reporting. Keep it rollin.
I don't know how a blog could even be remotely blamed for higher than average staff changes. People should care about doing a good job. Sometimes doing a good job is to make unpopular decisions. But if that is done with conviction, time will tell whether it was a good decision. And hopefully humanity is reasonable enough to begrudgingly accept in hindsight. Mind you. That is if it was a good decision.
No strong opinon on the firing because but it does come off very callous from the little information i do have. Perhaps a different position may have been created for Sally with the new department overseeing said position?
I just guess, but maybe they need some more experience in the new position. As it will encompass resort policies as well as parks and rec. Having said that, possibly they're headhunting a Whistler bureaucrat?
Jackass for mayor!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? You sir fire and use up people like they were made of rag material. Just ask former employees
ReplyDeleteas a 28 year tax payer I am sad to see the way this has gone down and it will be a loss to tofino and is one more
ReplyDeletereason to get out of a resort drivven town, gorbbys or
people what do you want
In my respectful opinion Sally Mole should run for Mayor..
ReplyDeleteShe has been in the Tofino Municipal Hall longer than just about anyone and has both experience and integrity and is a known and proven civil servant who is well liked and respected
I, for one, would vote for Sally in a heartbeat..
This would be the best way of telling Council that they were dead wrong in firing Sally..
You can't keep a Good Woman Down!!!
Sally Mole for Mayor!!!!!
If Sally were to run for mayor, I would immediately withdraw. Sally would make an awesome mayor.
ReplyDeleteIf elected I would work diligently to have this decision revisited and Sally rehired.
Revisited? Last time your dead sure to have her hired back
ReplyDeletethe position of mayor does not have enough power and would misdirect Sally's many magnificent talents... she would thrive and be much more effective if she were in the Chief Administrative Officers shoes!!
ReplyDeleteYes Sally would be the perfect choice. In tune with people, honest, with integrity and highly respected in and out of the community. All qualities that that position has not seen for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteI would vote for Sally in a heart beat. Integrity and service to the public as she has given to this community for 20 years is very hard to find indeed. I would venture a guess that these very qualities are the reason for her firing.
ReplyDeleteare you kidding me??? i'll keep my vote if you are running for Mayor.
