Has politics in Tofino led you to hit the bottle ? Frustration with water issues driven you to drink your whisky straight ? Are you self medicating while trying to get a building permit ?

Pretty stupid when so much money is collected from the sale of alcohol by the government. therein lies the problem....boozing is good for the government. then our taxes are used to clean up the mess caused by alcohol. will a study point out how stupid this system is? and how to correct it? just more money, energy and time wasted by alcohol....bravo DOT!
Read "Crime and Punishment". It tells how the Czar's Russian government, fearing revolution, supplied the population with ample supplies of cheap liquor, and promoted a very active social "nightlife". Drunks, they had learned, don't revolt. Mostly, they just sleep it off, sober up, and go back to work. Easy way to control the masses, and the people being manipulated thought they were having a good time. The beer halls and nightclubs were booming. Meanwhile, unseen or ignored but tolerated, in the background of society, all the negative aspects of alcohol abuse existed same as they do to this day. Crime, domestic abuse, parental neglect, shattered families, wrecked lives, lost futures....same tragedies still being repeated over a century after this book was written.
The people refuse to give up their booze. Alcohol has become ingrained into our culture. 1001 occasions REQUIRE a drink to be available. Prohibition was a disaster, and an attempt at a repeat would be the same. And as long as booze is available, it's going to be abused, because people are people, and that's how alcohol works. Booze today, wreckage tomorrow.
So the government taxes the sh*t out of the stuff, makes it readily available, pays first responders to clean up, medical staff to fix up, and lawyers to settle up the damages. All with our tax dollars. Let the party go on!!
If you choose not to drink, sucker, too bad, you're paying for the social damages anyhow. And if you do drink, you probably don't care..... pass me a beer.
well duh........ TOFINO is a resort community with around 1 million visitors a year most of whom would like a glass of wine with dinner or a beer, etc. are they the problem or is it the local folks who drink to excess? Isn't the same problem nationwide?? with alcohol the culprit? Why would TOFINO think that it's going to develop some sort of strategy that will solve a national problem. Aided and abetted by the governments liquor control distribution centres and taxation thereof. A fools errand, if you ask me, at taxpayer expense.
That's a great idea! Let's hire consultants to figure out what type of sign might be most effective. Maybe a first nations theme, or done in vibrant natural colors to show Tofino's connection to our natural world.
Good thing that Tofino council is throwing tax dollars at this huge problem. No one else is doing anything about it. https://cheknews.ca/rcmp-stop-19-impaired-drivers-in-tofino-say-drivers-were-50-50-split-between-locals-and-visitors-1318547/

A big sign upon entering Tofino from the park, warning of the dangers of alcohol

Yes more signs they have a woman that works for the district that loves putting up signs and closing roads
