Demands from local officials block provincial funding for new Tofino hospital:

Councillor Stere is a nice guy. Very polite, soft spoken, sincere. He's been at this project for nine years. "they’re making service-level decisions based on costs, not need", he says. Translate.... He thinks government should spend whatever it takes, whether they have the money or not, in order to acheive the vision of those in control.
He was asked to suggest a plan for a new hospital. Instead, he submitted a plan for a seniors facility and a teaching unit. He has been sent back to do it over.
It's unfortunate. Now, when Tofino's MLA happens to be the minister of health would seem to be the ideal opportunity for Tofino to finally get our long wished for new building. Instead, we get political posturing.
Sounds like something you'd expect to see in Tofino council chambers.

You got it right. Tom Stere… great guy… good for a chat. But what are the accomplishments of his lengthy time in office. Try getting a building permit in Tuff…..Water ???? Not so much. Anything but government housing?….Not so much…..High Taxes….Oh Ya. The problems are endless

Don’t get me wrong…..Great guy. But….Where does his money come from? He works for the Government. Doesn’t he?

So, let’s get together a group of people who work for government or don’t work at all, but get their money from government anyway, to lobby the government for more money. Great. Why isn’t the system working?……Duh!!!

Don’t get me wrong. I think the Tofino Hospital has turned into a bit of a dungeon.

But I have to ask…… What was the problem with a previous but “private” not “public” Seniors Housing Proposal???? ….. No room for the helicopter to land…. Couldn’t figure that one out? ?? And on it goes. Seems hard to get lots of things done. Who ya gonna call……”Ghostbusters”

I guess they call it “Tuff” for a reason.

It's all about the process. And when the process yields no tangible results - It's dysfunctional. A big part of the things that should happen in TOFINO simply die in process of meetings and consultants blah blah sandwiches and coffee.

Why can’t they design a building that can be added onto,….or once a new building is done they can go back an renovate the old one into seniors care and whatever…..Save a bunch of money as well

Whenever the concept starts moving forward, whoever is in charge decides it needs to be renamed. Then the concept needs to be done differently, even though we all know what a hospital is. Letterhead needs to be changed. business cards need redone. office doors need relettering, and everyone's vocabulary needs to address the new concept. The old budget is thrown out the window… We start all over again until the new concept gets a new re-name and someone else gets an idea and there you have it folks - RED TAPE!

Why are all of our current problems/issues caused by the government? I was under the impression that our elected officials were supposed to be solving problems not creating them. If you (elected official) are reading this, stop tripping over yourself please. We pay you. You work for us. Remember?

Mayor Dan is working with other levels of government, in order to promote government agendas. "'People need to be able to be born here and die here with dignity,' Tofino mayor says".........
"MAID" doesn't just "happen"! Evil procedures like this only happen when our leaders abandon their ethics and morals and work together to provide the state with the powers and facilities to kill their own citizens.
"Die with dignity". ?? I didn't realize that our new hospital required a death chamber. Who's first? You, Dan?
Am I confused? I thought hospitals were about saving lives and helping people to live.

Hospice care, end of life treatment, and seniors housing? Totally different topics. This exercise is supposed to be about a new hospital, nothin more, nothing less.
