...and while district staff continues to expend countless time and expense on various other "essential" services..... the fire department's rescue truck is kaput, and there no funds available to replace it. So normal rescue calls are being answered by using the huge pump truck? This is how we support our volunteers?

So Tin Wis can expand but no new commercial development in Tofino that would pay property taxes ?

Tin-wis is a reserve. Not in the district of TOFINO so can do whatever they want......

Don't be surprised to witness an application to rezone Poole land to accommodate a pretty good size housing project that may mean about 85 residential units......roots to roofs.... Google it and draw your own conclusions...... needs to be rezoned by February.

Now entering the era of legal
incoherency

That’s my point. Their water supply is from DOT .

No problem!! Carney's new "Major Projects Office" will fix it. (YES!! More fucking bureaucrats!!) Council just needs to ask the feds for a few hundred million in funding to increase the water supply.

Pickleball instruction courses . Your tax dollars at work.

And the FN over 10x allocation. Council really put on thier lipstick and knee pads for this one. Time to eject the entire council.

Significant capitulation for a special intrest group. that contibutes nothing financilly to Tofino

This is loosely worded. Is allocation to TFN only for the Tin Wis reserve property or does it extend to TFN owned fee simple land ? Does it extend to land held privately by TFN members ?

Let me take a stab at this. Don’t hesitate to correct any mistakes or fill in any blanks.

DOT runs out of water. What? Some twenty year ago. Water is trucked in to fill the tank on what do they call it? Barr’s Mountain….Details are sketchy…..please fill in the blanks
A Year later…..Tofino decides to expand the natural reservoir on what is the creek? On Meares Island. Is it Ginnard Creek? The creek the Tlaoquiaht (SP?) call Amahksis (Sorry for the spelling).
The work gets started but is curtailed because of the rainy season. Nothing ever happens to finish the project. I think I am correct on that one.

New CAO, Bob McPherson announces there is no sufficient water supply available so…..There will be no approvals for any NEW residential development. However…..properties that are commercially zoned may build out their already approved densities…….Things like Club Zed, Pacific Sands, the Cox Bay campground etc undertake major increases in commercial use of their properties? Meanwhile existing residential properties triple in value… I wonder what is driving that….. could it be all kinds of demand and no supply. Many are converted to Vacation Rental by either absentee owners or locals trying to stay in their homes. Property taxes also go through the roof…..(Pun Intended)
The only residential project to go ahead in recent years……Government backed “not for profit” housing…..It costs the taxpayers millions in undervalued land and other perks.
Meanwhile, Tofino increasingly uses water restrictions to try to limp through the dry season.
The “housing crisis” starts affecting Provincial and National politics. “Victoria” allocates moneys for Municipalities to get their house (planning process ) in order to increase production. At this point Tofino has not approved a new private sector residential development in like 10 years…..Help me now…… The adopted approach is to increase density in the core downtown areas. Single family can become duplex or triplex or fourplex. It is determined that every thing from the Industrial Road and out, to the southern end of the community will be unavailable for any increases in density. “Wow” radical. How many of these new dowtown core projects are undertaken…… come on…I dare you!
Proposed staff accommodations at Helesen and the Highway are rejected by council…Contrary to the OCP is the word and no water. Other proposals On the Barr’s old property and behind the Co-op gas station are nix and nixed again and again.
Some where in there, the public works staff comes up with a strategy to increase water supply from the existing system. Simple suggestions by Public Works significantly increases water supply. But no long-term solutions.
So where are we now?
It appears …..Property behind the gas station is a go….Huh! What happened there?
Vast majority of new water uses are now to take place outside Old village containment area….Huh but you just said (a year ago) nothing was to happen there……..Now we have First Nations off reserve uses??? and Staff accom on the main street. A year ago you were going in an opposite direction.
I also see that Building Permits for residential properties that are currently zoned may not be issued….because of the water issues…..BC assessment advised me last year that the assessed value of my residential property was influenced by the zoning that would permit tourist accommodation ( secondary suite or cottage) Currently I do neither but must pay the taxes anyway. Now you tell me I may not be eligible for a building permit but I will pay for that use anyway in my taxes……
And still there is a shortage of water.
I can’t keep up with this madness…..I give up!

Now I get it…..It’s a proposal for a redo of that old Abbot and Costello comedy script….Who is on first?…..No…. Who is on second?

Could we get clarification on these allocations? There is zero information on the DOT website as to the reasoning.

No new commercial development approved but DOT still happy to keep issuing VR licenses. Makes total sense!
