Niagara Falls has no room for tourists as all the hotels are being used to house illegal immigrants. Add to that a couple of million foreign students and a half million immigrants coming to Canada each year, and for most communities this creates the problem. Tofino and a few towns are outliers.

The mess that Tofino is in with most of the aspects of tourism comes with an abundance of inadequate vision & planning. Many of the screw ups were known and predicted however tourism tofino and other agencies ignored the warnings and demanded more tourists now. As the rate payers Association points out a bit late, the lowly taxpayer by default pays for most of the screwups without getting any benefit. As with most government screwup's they think they're doing a fine job and don't know any better.

The citizens voted for our current leadership in Tofino, Victoria and Ottawa. They voted for socialist/communist type leadership. Now they reap the rewards of that decision.
The socialists/communists always take from those that have and give it away to those that don’t have. The system works until there is nothing left to give the don’t have people and then it all collapses.

Yes, except the governing socialists don't have it quite right. They do give a lot of money to the peons AND their friends chummy consultants, propagandists and whoever else they feel like... often times without any benefit whatsoever to the public.

There are multiple classic examples of “Oh the taxpayers won’t mind paying for it” in Tofino.
All the largess of the tourist industry giving the town funds to create something that then requires the residents pay for the ongoing maintenance.
Such a great plan.

We have known long ago that before we opened the gates to big time tourism, we needed more water, a sewer system, and a well thought out housing component . the ministry of tourism, tourism tofino and greedy little piglets could care less about the chaos of not enough water, maybe a sewer system, and an atrocious housing solution and opened the tourist floodgates anyway.

Tourism down by 50% in Kelowna primarily caused by a spike in hotel prices due to the vacation rental laws imposed by the province. The down turn is being felt by restaurants and many other unintended businesses. Unemployment hit 5200 in july which should be peak season! Careful what you wish for DOT.

While contemplating the future of affordable rental housing sites it seems like the info centre site could readily accommodate 15 to 20 1 bedroom apartments. Way better use of the property that a garage solely to house a Volkswagen bus and the info center. An info centre could be in the bottom floor of an apartment building without any problem at all.

That is way too sensible.

I believe there is a restrictive covenant
