Can't really follow this issue.....The laws and administration of the law has become too arcane. Sad reality when home owners need lawyers to simply understand what they can do on their own property.

Council has ignored the local citizens issues in favor of its own left leaning political adgenda. Time to make a correction on ALL political levels. No development unless its NGO owned? Parasite organizations steal assets from the hard working local citizens. Time to wake up Tofino. Property rights are at risk and the NDP is looking to take control of private assets on all levels. This is what socialism looks like.
Council listens to the public for two minutes at a time or not at all and does what its ideological handlers tells them to do. not all council fall into this trap but most drink the Koolaid.

....but the owners at the hotels and resorts are cleaning up!!

The province and other government organizations have been duped by the hotel motel association that is very clear. One of the problems with Socialism is seeing in Russia is that the bureaucrats become the new wealthy and everybody else becomes the peons paying for the socialist excesses.

It's not meant to solve everything, but to help, which it's already doing in this town. Talk to the people looking for housing. Also, did anyone think the hotel association was altruistic?? Of course they're looking after their own interests.

Just to be clear.... Some voters (not me) elected Josie Osborne and sent her to Victoria to, we thought, represent the interests of the taxpayers of the west coast.
Instead, she's done nothing for Tofino.
Her government launched a vendetta against half of our local tourism industry, costing people their jobs and their livelihoods, catering to big money political donors in the hotel industry and pandering to the votes of the socially dependant.

There's an election coming up.
What has Josie Osborne done for you or your community, that might earn your vote? or lose it?

Josie made sure one constituent was able to sell his Ecolodge and garden for millions . I think she earned his vote.

9:52 your theory that its helping those in this town is false. Business is down visitors are down. Housing and rent prices are the same. Employers are still footing the bill for the last 20 yearsa of underdevelopment and now council wants to give more land and assets to NGO's. Time to stop the pandering to bigger socialist government. Ecolodge and its special treatment is a perfect example of what needs to change.

3:49 Regarding business is down. I don't know but maybe we have reached the peak as to how much one could charge. Tofino is an expensive place for both tourist and locals - hotels, VRs, restaurants and groceries. I have heard from many tourist that they can a have a cheaper and better holiday (i.e. better weather) in Hawaii. I think we are going to be an attraction for people to escape the heat of the interior or southern states. with the prices in Tofino it is no longer a place for an affordable family holiday.

The economy has changed since the last 10 years of a constant up trend . Now we are stagnant or at least levelled off and for some they are down financially. I'd say Tofino is doing very well considering some people have cut back on spending and the extra frills in life. Stop complaining and enjoy what you do have . It's busy and business as usual for most and money is still being made but maybe now with some balance of not being over run and you can get in somewhere to eat. Look around there are new business's, new homes and new people in town every year the pie is shrinking . Not everyone will do as well as they did cause now they have competition like a normal market.
