  1. If rent controls were eliminated there would be more interest in ownership of and creation of rental accommodations. Which do you want, more rental accommodations or rent controls and more regulations.

With plenty of rentals landlords would be scrambling to get tenants and offering lower rents rather than leave them vacant with no tenant. Classic example of socialism gone wrong. The current rent controls force landlords to raise the rents to the maximum every year and raise them “skyhigh” for any vacancies they have. Rent controls are not in the best interest of renters but renters are stupid and keep electing those politicians who support the idea of rent controls.

Why would anyone rent to anyone they cannot get rid of because of anti eviction rules and then not be able to rent the suite at a rate that covers the costs of the ever increasing absurd NDP carbon tax. Heaven help you if you rent to a surfer with the high costs of water in this town and their long showers.

Go ahead and squeeze out the profit incentive with carbon taxes and rent controls and landlord tenant regulations and places just will not be put on the rental market.
I know of a few empty places in Tofino where the owners will just not rent them out. They’d take a financial loss to rent them. In one case the unit was so badly trashed it took a year’s worth of rent to repair the damages.
