  1. This “incident” has received nationwide coverage today. (even worldwide broadcasters picked up this Tofino church fire story)

  3. Radicals are taking over, assisted by the media that daily keeps lobbing incendiary devices into the public discoarse. So much for the opportunity of any rational discussion about the future.

  4. Radical thinking is required. There’s a movement to destroy everything that does not fit an agenda.
One of the things being torn down across the province and country is the names of places because the historical people they were named after were “bad people”. Well if you look at the history of the name Wickaninnish you may find a man who killed people and had slaves. Perhaps his name should be removed from the whole area?

  7. 2:01pm you must be the same person who posted a similar statement on facebook, then deleted your post when you were getting (rightfully) raked across the coals. If you don't see the difference between naming something after a while colonialist vs. local historical figures such as wickaninnish and maquinna, you need to give your head a shake because you are being clouded by your predjudices.

  8. The wheel is a construct of colonial thought. If you use anything with wheels you are supporting the settler agenda. We the woke walk.

  9. The local natives were colonialists as well. They had wars between each other over land and resources. They took slaves. Their form of government is a despotic, nepotistic, dictatorship. In the last rounds Ahousaht won. They were no better nor worse than anyone else in history.

  10. Another Christian church, in Saskatchewan, torched today. I am not even religious, but this is so sad. Reverse the scenario. Imagine if one Mosque was destroyed, Trudeau would be writing new hate laws and CSIS Would be rounding up suspects. But what do we get from him, "we must understand the pain". And the BC Civil Liberties Assoc. rep says "burn them all down" and that is OK with the Government that is against hate speech. We need to dump this guy. He is playing the politics of division. Divide and conquer as the route to power. We deserve better.

  11. Lol 8:29. I don’t think an imam or a rabbi have ever molested or killed children at the rate the church has. Who are you covering for? I don’t agree with burning down churches but you can’t say they didn’t have it coming.

  12. They actually killed children did they? All churches? And at an alarming rate. You're sure about that? Do you have any idea what the child mortality rate was in all Canadian communities in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century? Sadly, even more so amongst FN communities with no immunity to European infectious disease. You might find a quick google search helpful.
I am not an apologist for the Catholic Church. Abuse and its apparent tolerance is receiving the legal and moral sanctions it deserves. But murder or genocide as some have framed the recent discovery of children's remains at Residential School sites? If actual murder was committed it certainly needs to be investigated, exposed and prosecuted where ever possible, but to presume all who are discovered in graveyards were murdered is a bit of a stretch. The real tragedy here may not be just that children died while in Residential Schools, but that they died away from the parents, families and communities in whom they knew trust, belonging and love. Yet another sad legacy of this misguided chapter in our history.
The other tragedy is a media that perpetuates and actually seems to promote the narrative of widespread murder through presumption, innuendo and repetitive unchallenged reporting of incendiary comments from pretty much anyone wanting to have a go at the Catholic Church. Such is what passes for journalism in Canada. Further commentary that contributes to this hyperbole is unhelpful.
