the jargon of wokeness is alive and kicking here as "reliable data; sustainable development; green initiatives; smart growth" and a few other incomprehensible terms one wonders why they came here.
the changes came since the beaches are now considered a tourist destination.
“Due to the influx and large increase of visitors and tourists, costs of maintaining, enhancing, repairing, and monitoring the use of our infrastructure have increased exponentially,” a statement reads in part.
“These costs should not be borne by our residents and property owners, hence the implementation of a fee charged to visitors.
8:06 : Just curious. Should that apply to the hundreds of offshore vehicles that enjoy free long term parking in Tofino ? Downtown Tofino is also experiencing an influx and large increase of vehicles.
I'll suggest that we don't combine two different issues...offshore parking and tourist parking. First, let's do what we can to get some revenue to cover the tourism costs. Then, let's re-visit the offshore issue, which is more complicated, especially since it involves first nations factors.
another one from the frontline of injustice is "white privelege". have you as a white person ever lived in Jamaica? you would then understand black privilege. if you lived in Ireland...wait a minute....it would be British privelege. in this age of whiney weenies just about every little thing becomes an injustice. unhappy people collect injustices then blame everyone else for their bad feelings. take charge of your own feelings instead of being "triggered" by every minor rule or inconvenience or imagined slight just because you have been taught or learned new words or phrases to use as an excuse for feeling bad.
In reply to 8:06 the beaches have been a tourist destination since 1969, there were thousands on the beach then. And the Parking issue is linked entirely to limited capacity and the DOT’s past lack of action on this issue. Offshore parking is a component as is taking money in lieu of providing parking in new developments and just pocketing the money. Working together with offshore communities is part of our future and the % of total parking seems very high if you check the numbers. I am unsure is any compensation has been provided to the District. This is a heavy topic but cannot be avoided any longer as the town is at or over capacity of visitors and new development activity, business or nightly rentals. A moratorium on both for two years would show wisdom. Other tourist communities have done this. Good planning and strategy will take at least two years to implement. A bigger issue is significant lack of fiscal responsibility by the DOT...we are a town and tax base of 2000 people we need to start acting like it.
A parkade downtown would be a logical solution. Maybe fill in by First St dock and build it there. Seems to be no lack of pre-election federal spending .
Mr. Carville seems all about politics and power. Little is about good governance but all about anything to retain power. Strange he sees this as part of the solution for his party when for many this is the problem. He don't talk woke he just talk shit.
