  3. I think the rental includes skates etc

  4. It's approx 9K for the rink and 12K for the tent, a total f over $20,0000.00. That's a nice chunk of change just to please a few people who are "bored" from sitting at home.

Perhaps we should think of those less fortunate, who don't even have a home to be "bored" in.

That 20K could be given to the Tofino Housing Corporation and Catalyst Community Developments to enhance their noble efforts to provide affordable housing for the members of our community.

Not wasted on a frivolous skating rink.

  5. Am I missing something, doesn't a skating rink require ice?

  6. It's only $500.00 per day... (calculated using arithmetic)...or maybe more, perhaps.

  7. It is only RMI money ! It’s like Canadian Tire money. Or Monopoly money. Tofino actually pays somebody to think up ways to get rid of it !!!

  8. Why don’t they break the rules and save it, putting it towards a sewer system?

  9. They should use the money to hire another bylaw officer for the summer to enforce the rules around beachfires so we don't have talks of another ban. RMI money is the PERFECT thing to be paying for that.
Why an ice rink? Can't people who want to get outside just go walk on the beach for free?

  10. If that doesn't work just change the title from "Bylaw enforcement officer" to " Visitor Information Representative". There, now that person qualifies for RMI funding! Fixed!!

  11. "Froment noted that 2020 has been a “unique year,” with cancelled events and social distancing measures dampening the usually vibrant summer season. She added that the town’s tourists have largely chosen to stay near their resorts, rather than venturing into the community’s downtown core."

It's been the busiest summer ever.
Froment's office must be in the basement of the municipal hall ?

  12. All of you cranks clearly need to release some endorphins and GO (synthetic) ICE SKATING!

  13. Aren't these the same people that keep opposing building a real ice rink that would be usable for generations to come......

  14. Ok, So I get some choices.
1- I can have a flush toilet in my house.
2- I can have hot and cold running water.
3- I can have a place to go ice skating.

Easy decision! Let's get that rink built!

  15. Am I the only one who notices that it's under the "entertainment" category? Surely this is satire?

  16. Just wish the community could use that RMI money for something the town really needs. I guess a temporary plastic pond is OK as long as it has one of those doggy water fountains beside it. Those are something else. They really take Tofino to a new level of fashion fantasy land . Apparently, where we want to be.
All this supposedly free shit for tourism promotion really warps the town.....Not Good!

  17. Combine the ice rink and sewage treatment plant. Everybody wearing masks anyway.

  18. Who comes up with ideas to squander RMI money ? Council doesn’t have the balls to disagree with anything staff recommends . Maybe it is time to review some of these positions . Council sides with staff rather than constituents. Staff promotes a “ us vs them
“ scenario. Has life in Tofino improved since the Resort Municipality designation ? Or do we see more people living in cars and ghetto campsites ?
Tourism is not the rising tide that floats all boats. It has reduced the town to a bunch of idiots grovelling for spare change from tourists.

  19. In former times the school gym was used for recreational purposes. For decades, because of friction between the District Of Tofino and the school board the gym no longer serves this purpose. The covered area underneath the gym was used as a covered area for ball hockey or whatever but even that isn’t allowed.
I am confident that our former mayor, in her new position of MLA, will be able to sort this out and the gym will once again be used for recreation.

  20. So with all the tourist staying near their resorts, the 'Al Fresco' dining area in the RV parking lot must have been a Flop this summer.
(and how much did those 2 tents, supervisor/cleaner, custom woodwork, hand washing trailer etc. really cost for several months ??)

However, this gullible bunch will get to hear in a future meeting that it was a tremendous success.
We need more RMI funded rental tents and Artist friends.
