District Office Closed

I went to pay my taxes today but the District of Tofino office was closed. I telephoned and a nice woman told me to pay my taxes online. The homeowner grant had to be put through the mail slot.
The Post Office is open . The Coop is open. The Botanical Garden and Darwin’s Cafe are open.Shed and Rhino are open . Surf shops are open. Bakeries are open. Most resorts are open.
I see the public works crew are out working as usual . Construction workers are carrying on .
The district office had plexiglass screens installed long before the pandemic. The office above the firehall has been closed to the public since Sonny lost his cool .
There seems to be two separate realities in Tofino.
Oh yeah, the bank and credit union are open . So is ICBC.
I guess the Task Force ordered the office closed.

  4. I guess only the municipal office is closed, cannot risk any of their staff becoming ill, the whole town would have to close down.

  5. They were just closed for cleaning. You should update your story today and stop stoking fear of the DOT.

  6. Closed for cleaning. Like cleaning their shopping carts? Their public bathrooms ? Or the 5 x 12 space that the public can access when they visit the office.

Where is the fear stoking. Read the post again and tell me where the fear is.

The point is this, in case you missed it. Every business in town has reduced their operating costs, primarily through a reduction in staffing levels. Why, well a reduction in business means a reduction in staffing. This has not been the case for the DoT. How can that be? Surely there is less to do regardless of the misguided need to echo the Province.

It seems the only things that has been reduced on the part of the DoT is a reduction in services. $9k a day and you can't get service at the desk because of cleaning.......

Do you see something wrong here or are you collecting some of that $9k?

You sound like a teenager defending your friend for some indiscretion.

In addition, the accusation of stoking fear, when it is clearly not the case, is Trumpian at best.

  8. Yeah, Right. They were just "closed for cleaning". I believe that. NOT! They were just grabbing one more long weekend, with full pay and benefits, and using any excuse they could find to justify it.
Let's call a spade a spade here. District staff are interested in the advancement of whatever is best for district staff. They're overpaid. They know it. There's too many of them. They know this also. They're in a constant public relations battle to justify their existence and to show us all what a great job "the team" is doing at providing "services" to the taxpayer.
This scam of "public service" is simply that, a scam, designed to supply good paying jobs to a select few in return for minimum work effort.
Common sense will tell you that there's no possible way it requires the current staffing levels in the D.O.T. office in order to administer the business of a small village of 1800 souls. Just 20 years ago all of this was done by only two people!
Today's solution is to form even yet more committies, groups, sects, gangs and organizations to deal with the complex issues facing the community. Actually the issues aren't that complex, but they create thousands of pages of meaningless "data" regarding the simplest of projects, and thereby create "work" for themselves sorting through it all, while also creating an baffling smokescreen of bureaucracy to hide it all from the common citizen.
It starts at the top, and goes all the way down the ladder. Terms like: "The Mayor's Task Force" and "Emergency Operations Center" and a host of others ---- All designed to justify, minimize, and conceal the personal consumption of the taxpayers dollars by a select few overpaid municipal staff.
Tofino is among the top of the list of taxed municipalities in B.C.----- and the taxpayers of Tofino are not getting their moneys worth.
But the D.O.T. staff are doing great. For themselves.
