  1. If you dig through the agendas you can find the following in Appendix A Dist. of Tofino 2020 Annual tax rates bylaw No. 1284, 2020 (DOLLARS OF TAX PER $1,000 OF TAXABLE VALUE)
Property Class General Debt Infrastrct Regional district Hospital Library
    Residential 1.88777 0.15708 0.00 0.43049 0.20436 0.10641

You do have to note that there has been zero taxation in the Capital and Infrastructure Levy (C&I LEVY)

That sounds great until you realize those funds that should have been collected in taxation this year will be collected in future years and probably more will be collected to make up for the shortfall collected this year. Some tax relief this year but more taxation pain later.

I have not found out yet what cuts if any, the district has committed itself to.
I reckon the town is digging itself into a hole.

On the topic of water rates why are the big users like the resorts getting discounted water? They are the users that are being subsidized by the residential user and require us to have expanded water supply systems. So far as I know the resorts are still getting water at less than the cost it takes to treat it. Water rates should at least represent the cost of the water being used.

  2. I'm glad someone is paying attention. It causes one to wonder why is it like this? It maybe because no one knows how to change it or they're in a big hurry and it's too much to think about right now. We have just had a very quiet seven weeks for us
to think about this stuff and how to start things differently after the covid interlude. Instead of going off on yet another tangent and not doing anything about anything why doesn't the council raise the water rates for the resorts, get the criteria for the tourist tax to be able to pay for infrastructure instead of a bunch of brainless advertisements. It can't be impossible to change these things because right now the taxpayer is getting screwed..

  3. Esowista continues putting their sewage into the Maltby pump station and it will be pumped through the Tofino system into the Sewage treatment facility that is to be built. They currently are metered.

But there is no resolution the upcoming situation, Esowista contributing to the sewage treatment plant and ongoing operational cost. Currently these costs are to be born by others as well as the millions of dollars to go out in interest expense.

Can anyone tell us different. I don't think council has been protecting out interests.

    I hope I am wrong>

  4. Esowista entered into an agreement with Tofino in 2008. I’m not sure if that agreement is still valid but payment was made at that time towards the construction of the treatment plant and pipe upgrades. Contact me if you want a copy of that agreement .
