Liberals are proposing to get into the property tax game. Property taxes are traditionally Provincial/municipal tax turf. The federal gov't is already sucking millions out of Tofino in Income taxes, Gst etc. They claim the new taxes are to be used to curb speculation and deter foreigners from pushing prices up.
I say if there are to be any such taxes let the municipalities implement them and benefit. Raise local/spend local. Besides who believes once they(the Feds) get a taste for property tax it will be mission creep to more and more. Sorry Justin, we are already taxed to the teeth. keep your mits off.
And by the way, what benefits accrue to the Municipality for billions collected in Provincial Property Transfer Taxes. Again they suck money out of the community and leave the wreckage of high cost real estate and struggling ownership behind. Not Good.
