  1. It doesn't matter. It's not about who gets elected, it's about the throng of staff entrenched in the District Office, consuming the people's taxes with their huge salaries and expense accounts. Who created all of these positions? Who hired all of these people? Who decided they were all required? No one even seems to have an accurate count of how many of them there even are, manufacturing paycheques at the corner of Third and Campbell.Who made the decision that a staff position in Tofino, population 2000, is worth the same wage as a staff position in full sized city, population 200,000? Where does anyone expect the money to pay these "staff" is going to come from?
All of these parasites were created and approved by and hired by the current mayor and council. Do you feel like you're getting your money's worth? I don't. I see waste, bureaucracy, poor results, mis-management, lack of transparency, and the production of large quantities of reports, more reports on matters long ago reported on, duplicates of these same reports.....all created to complicate and add to the workload of the staff who creates it all. Gotta justify that fat paycheque, eh?
But what to do about it? You can't get rid of them unless you pay them a king's ransom in severance pay. You can't force them to do more work, oh no, that would infringe on their "rights", might cause them "stress". They're in there, wallowing with their snouts in the trough, and they're not going to give up their share of the swill willingly. You're stuck with them, largely due to the lack of oversight of Her Lordship, Miss Personality, and the current elected group of folks "representing the people."
Yep, she's popular, she's got a smile, photographs well, has a wonderful way of twisting words to make "manure" sound like "for sure", and she's probably going to be re-elected.
Bend over, place your head between your legs, and kiss your tax dollars goodbye.
Smart people don't get involved with Tofino politics. Smart people stay as far away from Tofino politics as possible.Smart people don't offer to serve on the municipal government, because they know they're only beating a dead horse. Staff, not mayor and council, rule the barnyard.
Your taxes are going to rise. The cost of municipal services is going to increase. The quality of those services is going to decline.
It's bad. And it's not going to get any better.
Many people don't even bother to exercise their right to vote for the government of their choice. It's easy to understand why not.

  2. Regardless we have a current council who needs to be replaced. Duncan is useless, the homeless, Thorogood, thicke.... etc.. they all need to go. They have directed unconsciously the DOT to this place where we are all at now. Once they have gone, a complete shake down of the entitled DOT staff. Aaron has to go, along with the CAO.... Send a message.... a strong message. Alternatively, we will be paying for more whale pictures on the pavement.

Readers of this blog, need to turn their attention to supporting these new candidates and not split the vote. Getting the smiley Facebook Mayor out with only occur when we all get together and focus our votes.

  3. Mismanagement of money and the lack of serious priorities should be # 1-2 issues for voters. Highest spending per person in BC. OMG. That says it all. Over 32 million dollars squandered in the last 3 year term. And the results????

What major issues have been addressed let alone resolved?....Water?, Parking?, Cost of living?, Housing approvals? on and on, failings all. The results, Nada, Nada, Nada, Nada. More festivals and street art will not solve anything.

Should you vote for any incumbent? Nada.
