  1. Tofno is open and welcoming to all visitors. The Friends of Clayoquot Sound are completely wrong in asking businesses to boycott Justin Trudeau and his family. This group, who do not own businesses in Tofino, should know that the majority of Canadians and British columbians support the pipeline expansion.

The Prime Minister and his family, like everyone else, should be able to enjoy their private family vacation, in Tofino.. They could choose to vacation anywhere in the world and yet they favour our community, how cool is that! The Trudeaus will definitely be welcome at Long Beach Lodge, as they have been in the past.

  2. The rabble who complain all the time think because they are noisy that they are always correct.

  3. Tofino businesses may be singing a different tune if and when one of Trudeau's proposed bitumen tankers has a spill offshore. Bye-bye tourism, bye-bye fisheries.

The resorts will be singing a different tune when (not if) their ground floor is flooded by winter storms and sea level rise. And when they run out of water some summer because of increased summer drought.

Trudeau caved to the oil industry and is doing almost nothing on climate change, and Tofino is on the front lines. You bet he deserves at least a little pushback while he's here.

Friends of Clayoquot Sound had balls in 1993 when they stood up against industry, and they have balls now. Good on them!

  4. Friends Of Clayoquot turned to mush in 93. They ceded their own moral authority and "kow towed" to the Natives. It was the Tofino Community that did the heavy lifting and achieved success in 93 by presenting a more balanced option.

  5. To the first comment above. You have no proof on your statistics that the majority of bc and canada are for pipeline expansion. That is solely your opinion. The trudeaus can definitely enjoy their private vacation.. but unfortunately they are a very public family, and public office breeds a need for accountability. Especially pm. No need for businesses to get political unless they want to. That,s the beauty of it. Also it is callous to think that owning a business gives you the only right to an opinion. As you insinuated when mentioning that friends of clay dont own any businesses. Employees do make up the majority of the population in tofino. That is a statistical fact. Unlike your pipeline rhetoric.

  6. 5;24 Maybe you need to read up on some of the polls. I can suggest Angus Reid and Ipsos that show pretty much the same thing. About 56% support of pipeline expansion across the country and surprisingly even a majority in BC.. About 24% opposed and 20 something percent undecided. Similar results in a variety of polls and in answer to a variety of questions..... Even stronger mumbers against the protestors...... This question has been settled. You are entitled to your opinions but not the facts. Strange that the left would argue against the clear scientifically produced and consensus data on this issue. Pipeline support deniers.

  7. Exactly my point. It is your opinion. Because polls have been proven statistically false much of the time. You are assuming Angus and ipsos are objective and polls actually gauge what a large cross section of society believes in that moment. Spouting numbers always looks good in a diatribe, rendering fact meaningless. As do assumptions of right and left as a meaningful measure of ones morals and philosophies. Alberta strong.
